New York Yankees @ Cleveland Guardians: Clarke Schmidt vs. Peyton Battenfield

After a big Game 2 win on Tuesday, the Yankees are looking for their fourth straight series in Cleveland. The Guardians also want to retain their home advantage. With both Yankees and the Guardians meeting for the final series game on Wednesday, the stakes are high for fans both in the Bronx and Cleveland.

When: Wednesday, Apr. 12, 2023.

Time: 1:10 p.m. EDT.

Where: Progressive Field, Cleveland.

TV: NBC Sports Bay Area, YES Network.

Stream: MLB.tv, DirecTv

Moneyline: Yankees -115, Guardians -105; over/under is 9 1/2 runs.

Pitching matchup: Clarke Schmidt will start for the Yankees while the Guardians have Peyton Battenfield as their starter.

The Yankees have a record of 7-4 overall and 3-2 when playing away from home. When the Yankees hit two or more home runs in a game, they have a record of 4-1 in those contests.

The Guardians have a record of 7-5 overall and have a home record of 2/3. The combined earned run average of the Guardians’ pitching staff is 4.33, which places them eighth in the AL.

In their last 10 games, the Yankees went 6-4, hit.000, had a 2.97 ERA, and scored 22 more runs than their opponents.

Yankees to start with Clarke Schmidt

Clarke Schmidt is 0-2-0 against the spread in his two starts this season. The right-hander last pitched on Friday against the Baltimore Orioles. He went 3 1/3 innings and gave up four earned runs. Schmidt struggled with four runs after pitching three innings at Camden Yards. Even though the Yankees came back and took a one-run lead in the sixth, they lost to the Orioles 7-6 thanks to mistakes by their bullpen and a failed rally in the eighth.

In his two starts, Clarke Schmidt failed to impress. The Yankees’ starting pitcher added a new cutter over the offseason to help him beat left-handed batters, who have always hit well (.797 OPS) against right-handed pitchers. The early results have been bad, and a 7-6 loss at Camden Yards on Friday made things even worse. The starter gave up five hits and three walks, which led to four runs and a 4-0 deficit for the Yankees.

The Yankees are expecting Schmidt to reset himself and lead them to a series win against the Guardians.

Yankees Injured List: Gleyber Torres, Jonathan Loaisiga, Tommy Kahnle, Josh Donaldson, Frankie Montas, Lou Trivino, Harrison Bader, Carlos Rodon, Luis Severino, Luis Gil, Scott Effross, Ben Rortvedt.
