New York Yankees utility player Oswaldo Cabrera has been capitalizing on his increased playing time, emerging as a key contributor amid the struggles of other players, including DJ LeMahieu.

Cabrera made his sixth start in seven games during Sunday’s matchup against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park, underscoring his improving performance. The switch-hitter has stepped into the role of the team’s primary third baseman, a shift that has bolstered the Yankees’ lineup. In the Yankees’ 8-2 victory, he reached base twice and drove in two critical insurance runs with a ground-rule double to right field.

The Yankees utilityman credits his recent success to increased consistency at the plate, which he attributes to more regular playing time rather than any significant changes to his swing.

Over the past 14 games, Cabrera has been on a hot streak, batting .351 (13-for-37) with a home run. His surge has lifted his season average from .227 to .246 and his OPS from .606 to .646.

Manager Aaron Boone praised Cabrera’s versatility and his recent performances, especially noting the quality of his at-bats from the left side of the plate.

“He’s just such that good utility that you can put anywhere,” he said. “Especially from the left side; certainly liked his at-bats lately.”

However, Cabrera’s role might soon be in flux following the Yankees’ acquisition of Jazz Chisholm Jr., who could potentially take over at third base starting Monday. This change could lead to reduced playing time for him or even a stint in the minors.

Cabrera stays flexible amid Yankees’ lineup flux

As the trade deadline nears, the New York Yankees find themselves in a roster quandary, especially with utility player Oswaldo Cabrera’s recent surge in performance adding complexity to their decision-making process. Cabrera, flourishing with more consistent playing time, admitted that his usual utility role, which often involves irregular appearances, poses its own set of challenges.

“It’s not easy,” Cabrera said. “It’s not easy when you’re not playing. At the same time, I have to try to do my best even when I’m not playing and trying to do my best to stay ready.”

The arrival of Jazz Chisholm Jr. and the anticipated return of Giancarlo Stanton from the injured list are set to significantly alter the Yankees’ lineup. These changes could impact Cabrera’s role, potentially shifting DJ LeMahieu to a more consistent backup position.

Manager Aaron Boone acknowledged Cabrera’s value to the team, noting the tough choices ahead. The Yankees must decide whether to option Cabrera to the minors, protecting him from waivers, or keep him on the major league roster, risking the loss of a player who might have found his groove at the plate.

Should Cabrera stay with the big league club, the Yankees may need to consider other roster adjustments, possibly involving Jahmai Jones or even LeMahieu.

Cabrera, meanwhile, expressed his commitment to the team’s success, stating his readiness to adapt to any position or role required. He emphasized his focus on team victories over individual roles.

“I’m the type of guy who just likes to play,” the switch-hitter Yankee said. “In my mind, it’s whatever they decide they have to do. With me in specific, if I’m playing I’m happy. I just want to help the team win, and that’s the most important thing in my mind. So any way that they need me … I will do it.”

As the trade deadline approaches, the Yankees face the challenge of balancing effective roster management while harnessing the momentum from in-form players like Cabrera. His impressive .351 batting average over the last 14 games has certainly elevated his standing within the organization.

The next few days will be pivotal in deciding whether Cabrera’s hot streak will continue to directly benefit the Yankees or if roster constraints will necessitate a different strategy for utilizing his talents.

  2. Torres should be sitting the bench, prior to being traded, hopefully.

Torres committed an uncharged error by not completing an easy double play that cost the Yankees a run early in the first game against the Phillies. The “error” showcased his usual lack of effort. He could have easily jumped eight inches in the air to avoid the sliding runner’s feet, but why the f*ck bother, right, Torres? So what if your laziness cost us a run, right, D*ckhead?

And Boone continues to tolerate that sort of Careless, Stupid & Lazy effort from Torres. WHY? Is he your illegitimate child, for God’s sake?

Speaking of Boone’s ignorance, what language was Boone speaking when he said the following of Cabrera? “He’s just such that good utility that you can put anywhere,” Boone said. WTF?! Did you pass third grade literacy? Can you even formulate & express a semi-literate thought?

Cabrera showed how Much More Valuable he is to the Yankees, than Torres, when he said this: “I just want to help the team win, and that’s the most important thing in my mind. So any way that they need me … I will do it.”

Contrast that with what Torres told Boone when Boone asked him to move to third base, so Jazz Chisholm could play second. According to published reports, Torres refused to do second hat to help the team, insisting that “I’m a terrible second baseman” and I won’t move from there. (Okay, I might have injected an extra word in that quote. 😉

It’s a DISGRACE that a Worthless, Selfish, Lazy piece of crap like Torres is playing ahead of Cabrera.

  3. Sorry for the inadvertent double paste. I thought I had deleted my earlier draft. My bad. Unlike Cashman, I admit it when I screw up.
