Yankees’ left-handed pitcher Anthony Misiewicz moved to the 7-day injured list following concussion symptoms caused by a frightening incident on Friday night. During the sixth inning of the Yankees’ 7-5 victory over the Pirates, Anthony Misiewicz was struck by a 100.6 mph line drive on the left side of his head.
After spending a couple of minutes on his knees, Anthony Misiewicz was alert and even shared some jokes with his teammates before being taken to a Pittsburgh hospital for further examination. Following a number of medical tests, the Yankees’ reliever was discharged from a local hospital on Friday night, making his way back to the team’s hotel.
The arrangement involved Anthony Misiewicz arriving at PNC Park later on Saturday, followed by a consultation with the Pirates’ team doctor on Sunday. Subsequently, upon returning to New York alongside the Yankees, he would undergo another comprehensive series of tests administered by their team doctor.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone stated before the game on Saturday that, considering the circumstances, Anthony Misiewicz was doing quite well. He anticipated that Anthony Misiewicz would join them at the ballpark later and mentioned that Misiewicz had an appointment with the doctor on Sunday. Additionally, upon their return to New York early next week, Anthony Misiewicz would undergo further tests as part of the evaluation by their medical team.
Boone mentioned that he had learned that the player had been discharged from the hospital on Friday night, which he considered to be excellent news. He also said that after Anthony Misiewicz’s return from the hospital, he had the opportunity to visit his room. According to him, the player was in good spirits, and his overall condition, as well as his demeanor, appeared to be quite positive.
Despite grappling with persistent concussion symptoms, Anthony Misiewicz remained in good spirits following a night of rest. However, on Saturday, the 28-year-old continued to contend with symptoms related to the concussion and faced additional tests in the near future.
“He’s definitely got some symptoms,” Boone confirmed. “Concussion-related. Yeah, dealing with some symptoms.”
Ian Hamilton replaced Anthony Misiewicz in Yankees bullpen
After placing Anthony Misiewicz on the injured list, the Yankees recalled activated Ian Hamilton, who had been sidelined since August 31 with a right groin strain. Hamilton has been a significant contributor to the Yankees’ bullpen this season, which currently boasts the lowest ERA in the majors. In his 35 appearances, he has a record of 2-2 with a 2.24 ERA, 64 strikeouts, and 23 walks over 52 1/3 innings.
This latest bullpen change marks the ninth such alteration this month for the Yankees, who have been plagued by injuries throughout the season. Anthony Misiewicz, who was claimed off waivers in July and recalled from Triple-A on September 10, became the 27th Yankees player to land on the injured list this year, resulting in a total of 36 injury stints, with 15 of them still active.
