Alex Rodriguez, one of the all-time greats of the New York Yankees, recently treated fans to a unique glimpse into his baseball journey by sharing an Instagram post. In this intriguing post, he compared his batting technique from his early days in 1995 to his final swings in 2016.

In his Instagram, Rodriguez provided a captivating visual contrast: “The most significant change in my swing: on the left, I’m a 19-year-old, facing a challenging curveball. You can see a noticeable shift in weight, with me almost leaning forward onto my front foot. In the last clip, I’m 40 years old, and my swing is more centered on my back foot, with me leaning back.”

A-Rod, a Yankee legend

The world of baseball is adorned with legends who’ve etched their names in history, becoming icons in their own right. Alex Rodriguez, affectionately known as A-Rod, stands tall among them. His storied journey with the New York Yankees left an indelible mark on Major League Baseball (MLB).

Born in 1975 in New York, Rodriguez showcased his baseball talent at a young age, emerging as a promising star in the minor leagues. At just 19 years old, he made his MLB debut in 1995 with the Seattle Mariners before moving on to the Texas Rangers in 2001. Finally, in 2004, he found his home with the New York Yankees.

His first appearance with the Yankees marked the beginning of a career that would be filled with records and accolades. Back then, his batting style exuded the youthful energy and power of an up-and-coming star.

Throughout his illustrious 22-season career, Rodriguez achieved remarkable feats. With 696 home runs (placing him fourth all-time), 2,084 RBIs, and a robust batting average of .295, he earned his place among the game’s legends. Rodriguez was a 14-time All-Star, a three-time American League MVP, and led the AL in home runs on five occasions. The pinnacle of his career came in 2009 when he secured his sole World Series victory with the Yankees.

However, his final season was less glamorous, with a batting average of just .204 and only nine home runs in 216 at-bats. Towards the end of the season, he started in just one of 14 games since July 22, and his home run tally stood at a mere two since June 3. Many viewed Rodriguez’s contract, once the largest in baseball history, as a financial burden for the Yankees, who had been paying a substantial salary to a veteran player.

In the wake of his retirement, Alex Rodriguez issued a handwritten apology statement. In it, he addressed his past controversies and expressed his commitment to mentoring and supporting young players within the organization.

Despite his undeniable talent, Rodriguez’s career remains associated with the controversy surrounding performance-enhancing drugs, casting a shadow over his remarkable achievements. He faced a suspension for the entire 2014 season due to his involvement in the Biogenesis scandal, where MLB players were accused of using performance-enhancing drugs allegedly supplied by a now-defunct South Florida anti-aging clinic.
