Following reports of Jennifer Lopez filing for divorce from Ben Affleck after two years of marriage, one of Lopez’s former partners appeared to weigh in on the situation with a subtle social media message.
Alex Rodriguez, the former New York Yankees star, posted a cryptic note on his Instagram story soon after the news emerged. The message hinted at the idea of taking control when faced with life’s choices, possibly alluding to recent developments.
“You either go one way or the other, you might as well be the one deciding the direction,” his post said within hours of the JLo-Ben Affleck divorce becoming public.
Alex Rodriguez dated JLo for two years
Rodriguez and Lopez were previously engaged for about two years before their relationship ended in March 2021. At the time of their breakup, the pair publicly expressed their intent to remain friends and continue their professional collaborations, wishing each other and their families well.
Rodriguez, now 49, spent 12 seasons with the Yankees and is currently dating fitness coach Jaclyn Cordeiro.
Jlo-Ben Affleck divorce
Lopez, 55, and Affleck have a history that spans several years and multiple reunions. Their most recent relationship lasted approximately 3.5 years. The couple originally dated from 2002 to 2004, during which they became engaged but ultimately called off the wedding.
During their early 2000s romance, Lopez and Affleck worked together on films like “Gigli” (2003) and “Jersey Girl” (2004). Their breakup at the time was partially attributed to the overwhelming media attention they received.
When Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck rekindled their romance after nearly two decades apart, reactions ranged from excitement to skepticism. The couple surprised many by getting married not once, but twice, in 2022.
Lopez shared her perspective on their reunion through her personal newsletter, where she emphasized that love can be “beautiful, kind, and patient”—in their case, patient for 20 years. She announced their spontaneous Las Vegas wedding in July, signing off with her new married name.
In her reflection, Lopez spoke of life’s unpredictability, suggesting that remaining open to possibilities can lead to extraordinary experiences—like finding lasting happiness in a late-night drive-through wedding chapel in Las Vegas.
The Vegas ceremony was a modest affair. They obtained their marriage license alongside four other couples and exchanged vows just after midnight at A Little White Wedding Chapel. Lopez described the intimate ceremony, complete with music from a Bluetooth speaker, as the best night of their lives.
A month later, they hosted a more elaborate celebration at Affleck’s Georgia estate, surrounded by friends and family.
Both Lopez and Affleck brought past marital experiences into their union. Affleck, now 52, was married to Jennifer Garner from 2005 to 2018, and they share three children.
Lopez has been married three times before. Her first marriage to Ojani Noa lasted from 1997 to 1998, followed by a brief marriage to Cris Judd from 2001 to 2003. Her longest marriage was to singer Marc Anthony, which lasted a decade starting in 2004, during which they had twins, now 14 years old. In 2017, the same year Alex Rodriguez retired from Major League Baseball, Lopez began a relationship with him.
