Yankees get 6 RBIs from the Duo of Judge and Gonzalez
The surging New York Yankees defeated the sloppy Baltimore Orioles 10-5 on Thursday, thanks to Aaron Judge‘s long three-run homer moments after Baltimore committed its 5th mistake of the game.
Judge’s 5th home run came two batters after shortstop Jorge Mateo made his real error by misplaying DJ LeMahieu’s grounder. Judge blasted a slider into the left-center field seats after Tim Locastro scored on a wild pitch by Paul Fry.
During New York’s four-run fifth inning, Judge also had the tying hit, and Anthony Rizzo delivered the game-winning single.
Marwin Gonzalez had such an RBI double, and Judge’s single came off the bat of Baltimore starter Bruce Zimmermann (1-1).
Judge tied it with a tough single to center field that deflected off second baseman Rougned Odor’s glove. Mateo allowed LeMahieu’s grounder to deflect off his glove, resulting in Judge’s hit.
Gonzalez’s score came after third baseman Kelvin Gutiérrez was charged with a throwing error for a low throw to first base on Locastro’s grounder. Gonzalez finished an 11-pitch at-bat with a sacrifice fly after reliever Mike Baumann has been charged with a throwing error on Locastro’s comebacker.
In the seventh inning, Josh Donaldson added to the lead with an RBI single.
Rizzo, who homered 3 times on Tuesday, singled next to left fielder Austin Hays to put the Yankees up 3-2.
In 4 2/3 innings, New York starter Jameson Taillon permitted runs and seven hits. He also threw 2 wild pitches, allowing Baltimore to score its second run.
Miguel Castro (2-0) pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the fifth inning. Jonathan Loáisiga stranded two runners in the sixth inning and pitched 1 1/3 innings well before the Yankees took control.
