New York Yankees star outfielder Aaron Judge has been named the American League Player of the Month for August after a standout performance across 26 games. Judge’s exceptional play further solidifies his status as one of MLB’s top talents.
Aaron Judge joins an elite group of players who have won three Player of the Month awards in a single season, including Mark McGwire (1998), Ronald Acuña Jr. (2023), and Judge himself, who achieved the feat in 2022 and again in 2024.
The MLB Player of the Month Award has been issued in the National League since 1958 and in the American League since 1974. The all-time leaders in the award’s history are Barry Bonds with 13, Alex Rodriguez with 10, and Aaron Judge with 9.
Aaron Judge’s torrid August clinches AL Player of the Month award
Throughout August, Aaronn Judge maintained an impressive slash line of .389/.530/.865, which reflects his dominance at the plate. He hit 12 home runs, doubled six times, drove in 24 runs, and scored 21 times, making a significant impact on his team’s performance. Judge’s power was on full display, as he continued to be a driving force in the Yankees’ lineup.
As the season progresses, Aaron Judge is on track to finish with around 60 home runs, a figure close to his career-high of 62 homers, which he achieved in 2022. That season, Judge set the record for the most home runs in a single season by an American League player, surpassing Roger Maris’ long-standing record of 61, set in 1961.
For the 2024 season overall, Aaron Judge has been nothing short of exceptional. He is hitting .326 with a .459 on-base percentage and a .711 slugging percentage, totaling 51 home runs and 124 RBIs in 136 games. These statistics have positioned him as the leader in multiple categories across Major League Baseball, including home runs, RBIs, walks, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, OPS+, and total bases.
Given his outstanding performance this season, Aaron Judge is widely expected to secure the American League Most Valuable Player (MVP) award, with Kansas City Royals’ Bobby Witt Jr. being his closest competition. Witt has had a remarkable season of his own, but Judge’s consistent excellence and league-leading stats make him the frontrunner for the MVP title.
This Player of the Month award for August is a testament to Aaron Judge’s hard work and his ability to perform at an elite level, further cementing his legacy in the game.
