The Yankees expect Matt Carpenter to be part of their active roster against the Texas Rangers. This creates hope for the return of the third baseman before the season ends.

Matt Carpenter is out with a broken foot but the team brass hopes for his return during the final series of the season in Texas. However, they haven’t finalized it yet, as the 36-year old is yet to become fully fit to play.

Since he was hit in the left foot by a foul ball on August 8th, Matt Carpenter has been sidelined and recovering from the injury. However, the ex-Ranger is committed to making his comeback before the end of the season.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone has stated that the club is “holding out hope” that Matt Carpenter will be able to take the field against the Rangers in the upcoming series. New York will play their final four games of the regular season in Choctaw Stadium (formerly Globe Life Field) from October 3 through 5.

Nevertheless, nothing is absolutely certain. On Monday, just before the Yankees took on the Blue Jays in Toronto, Boone told:

“We’re still a ways from even having an idea if that’s gonna be possible or not. Obviously, a lot of it depends on how his week unfolds. He’s just starting to do a lot of weight-bearing things. We’ve tried to keep that in play with how we’ve maneuvered the roster and stuff, but we’ll just have to see.”

Before suffering a foot fracture, Matt Carpenter was having a breakout season with the Yankees. However, he started the 2022 season playing for the Rangers.

The utility man, who had been the Cardinals’ mainstay for the previous 11 seasons, struggled during his final two years in St. Louis, hitting just .176 between the years 2020 and 2021. The Cardinals made the decision not to bring Carpenter back for this season, which resulted in him spending some time with the Triple-A affiliate of the Rangers.

Carpenter was eventually released by Texas, which allowed the Yankees to make one of their more impressive acquisitions of this season. Carpenter played 47 games for New York after signing a contract with a major league club and finished with a slash line of .305/.412/.727, 15 home runs, 37 RBI, a 217 OPS+, and a 2.4 bWAR before suffering an injury.

Do you think Matt Carpenter can give a huge boost to the Yankees in Texas?
