The New York Yankees have announced that left-hander Carlos Rodon will be their starter for Game 2 of the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
With Gerrit Cole set to take the mound for Game 1, the Yankees are counting on Carlos Rodon to help them gain momentum in the series.
Carlos Rodon’s regular season vs. postseason performance
Carlos Rodon, currently in the second year of a six-year, $162 million contract he signed in December 2022, had a solid regular season. He made 32 starts, pitching 175 innings with a 16-9 record, a 3.96 ERA, 195 strikeouts, and a 1.22 WHIP. His postseason, however, has been a mix of highs and lows, leaving some uncertainty as he heads into this critical game.
In the ALDS against the Kansas City Royals, Carlos Rodon struggled, lasting just 3.2 innings and taking the loss after allowing four runs on seven hits, including a home run. Despite striking out seven batters, his control issues led to an early exit, raising questions about his consistency.
Carlos Rodon bounced back in Game 2 of the ALCS against the Cleveland Guardians, delivering a strong performance. He pitched six innings, giving up just one run on three hits while striking out nine, earning the win and helping the Yankees take control of the series.
However, his most recent outing in Game 5 of the ALCS was less than ideal. While he struck out six and allowed only two runs on five hits, he struggled with efficiency, lasting just 4.2 innings. His pitch count climbed to 85, and he was pulled after getting into trouble against the Guardians’ lineup in the fifth inning. Though he received a no-decision, the Yankees went on to win the game and clinch the series in extra innings.
Despite a 4.40 ERA in the postseason, manager Aaron Boone is confident in Carlos Rodon’s ability to handle the Dodgers’ potent offense. The lefty’s power arm and experience will be crucial as the Yankees aim to contain a lineup that has been one of the best in the league throughout the season.
The Yankees and Dodgers are set to begin their highly anticipated World Series showdown on Friday night. First pitch for Game 1 at Dodger Stadium is scheduled for 8:08 p.m. EST, as both teams look to establish early control in this historic matchup.
