Yankees’ pitcher Gerrit Cole demonstrated his pitching prowess by delivering a solid performance on the mound. He remained composed and minimized the impact of a hit-by-pitch, allowing no runs and inducing key groundouts.
Cardinals take the lead
The Cardinals broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth inning. Nolan Arenado led off with a double, followed by Alec Burleson’s single that advanced Arenado to third. Rookie Jordan Walker then stepped up and drove in Arenado with a line drive to center, giving the Cardinals a 1-0 lead. Andrew Knizner added another run with an RBI single, although Cole’s efforts limited the damage

Offensive struggles and Cardinals’ dominance
Even though the Yankees made a last-minute attempt to score with Jake Bauers’ double that brought in one run, the Cardinals remained the stronger team. The Yankees had a weak offense, with only two hits and nine strikeouts. The Cardinals took advantage of opportunities, increasing their lead with Brendan Donovan’s two-run homer and scoring another point due to a defensive error by the Yankees.
