New York Yankees pitcher Marcus Stroman is transforming athletic success into meaningful community impact once again. In a compassionate initiative driven by genuine concern, Stroman and his Height Doesn’t Measure Heart (HDMH) Foundation have broadened their collaboration with Bold.org to assist students impacted by the catastrophic 2025 California wildfires, particularly those in Pasadena and Altadena.

The Marcus Stroman Scholarship, now in its second year, will provide $25,000 each to two high school seniors from these fire-ravaged communities, helping them overcome financial barriers and pursue higher education despite recent hardships.

“Towns across Southern California experienced total devastation from the recent wildfires,” the Yankees pitcher said. “We must not let what happened change the rightful path of students who want to thrive and succeed.”

The Marcus Stroman Scholarship debuted in 2024 with the goal of supporting underprivileged students from disadvantaged areas. Its inaugural year saw $50,000 awarded to two graduating seniors in the Bronx. This year’s focus shifts westward after wildfires tore through substantial portions of California, forcing families from their homes and disrupting educational trajectories.

The geographic expansion reflects Stroman’s dedication to educational equity. His HDMH Foundation operates on the core belief that “Height Doesn’t Measure Heart,” a personal philosophy emphasizing perseverance and the conviction that determination and self-belief can overcome any challenge.

Marcus Stroman scholarship 2025: Key details

  • Eligibility:
    • High school seniors from Pasadena or Altadena, California
    • Must identify as low-income
    • Must hold a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Application Requirements:
    • Personal essay and video describing how the 2025 wildfires impacted their educational journey, college aspirations, and long-term goals

“This scholarship is more than just financial aid,” said Tori Meglio, VP of Donors at Bold.org. “It’s a commitment to ensuring students affected by natural disasters don’t have to put their dreams on hold.”
