The readers of Pinstripes Nation have tons of reasons to celebrate. During the New York Yankees‘ triumphant 3-1 victory over the Seattle Mariners, another good news emerged: Carlos Rodon debuted and delivered an impressive performance at the Double-A affiliate Somerset Patriots.
Despite having only played one Minor League game, Carlos Rodon’s performance made significant impact past Tuesday, as he completed his first rehab start against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
Throughout three innings, Carlos Rodon allowed only one run on one hit, with one walk and five strikeouts.
Brilliant comeback
After the match, Carlos Rodon expressed his satisfaction with returning to the pitch, stating, “It felt good.” Despite a slow start, he induced a ground ball and expressed joy at being back out there.
“At this point, I’m focused on executing pitches. That’s the goal. I felt like I was just getting started and finding my groove, but it was good that I found it in the third inning. Ideally, I would have found it initially, but it doesn’t always work that way.”
Carlos Rodon had dealt with a left forearm strain that sidelined him during late spring training. While working his way back, he also encountered back stiffness, which further delayed his timeline for return.
Completing this rehab start marked a significant step forward for Carlos Rodon, who acknowledged the need for patience.
What’s next?
The plan is for Carlos Rodon to pitch one or two more rehab starts before rejoining the Yankees. However, seeing him back in action after his absence since spring training was a positive development.
While Carlos Rodon eagerly anticipates his debut as a Yankee, he understands the importance of remaining patient and continuing to make strides in his recovery.
Once he is fully ready, the Yankees will have their star in the rotation. Otherwise, it would be a disaster, as the team rewarded Carlos Rodon with a six-year, $162 million deal in the offseason.
As fans await his comeback on the big stage, the Pinstripe Nation will provide the best coverage of his journey in the Minor League.
