The New York Yankees, among other teams, have shown interest in acquiring two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell. However, recent reports indicate that the star pitcher may have other preferences.

During a podcast appearance, MLB insider Buster Olney shared his prediction. He believes that the Los Angeles Angels could be the top contenders to sign Snell, who remains the most sought-after free-agent pitcher despite his impressive track record.

Olney’s forecast is based on discussions with sources close to Snell and a growing belief that the former San Diego Padres ace prioritizes remaining in Southern California.

Snell’s free agency status remains surprisingly unresolved, particularly considering his noteworthy achievement of winning the Cy Young Award in both the American League (with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2018) and the National League (with the San Diego Padres in 2023). This accomplishment places him in an exclusive category of pitchers.

The anticipation for Snell’s decision continues, with the possibility of him joining the Yankees or another team still on the horizon.

As Opening Day approaches, two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell remains unsigned, leaving baseball enthusiasts and analysts speculating about his next team.

Snell’s performance in the 2023 season showcased his pitching prowess. He achieved an impressive 14-9 record with a league-leading 2.25 ERA, garnering near-unanimous recognition in the Cy Young voting. This success echoes his previous achievements, notably leading the Majors in ERA in 2018 (1.89) while playing for the Tampa Bay Rays, a season that culminated in an AL Cy Young Award win.

Reports suggest that the New York Yankees are actively pursuing Snell, with indications that they may offer him a salary surpassing the $27 million currently paid to Carlos Rodón, as reported by the New York Post. However, the same sources suggest that the Los Angeles Angels, while maintaining communication with Snell, have yet to submit a formal offer.

MLB insider Buster Olney underscores two significant factors that may sway Snell’s decision: the overall financial package offered and the possibility of injuries prompting a contender to meet the asking price set by his agent, Scott Boras.

With less than three weeks until Opening Day, the anticipation surrounding Snell’s free agency remains palpable. Will he join the Yankees, opt for the Angels, or perhaps choose a different team altogether? Only time will reveal his ultimate decision.

As Opening Day rapidly approaches, the New York Yankees find themselves engulfed in a whirlwind of rumors and speculation, particularly concerning their starting rotation.

Uncertainties persist regarding the team’s pitching depth, leading some to speculate whether the Yankees might pursue a last-minute acquisition to fortify their staff. While two-time Cy Young winner Blake Snell remains a prominent figure in these discussions, other alternatives are also under consideration.

The decision to add another starting pitcher at this stage is weighty, primarily due to the implications of the luxury tax. However, for a team widely regarded as a top contender in the American League, such a move could be a calculated risk worth taking. A formidable starting rotation could prove pivotal in determining whether the Yankees contend for a championship or fall short.

Thus, the Yankees are confronted with a pivotal choice: address their pitching needs and potentially surpass the luxury tax threshold, or place their trust in their current roster and hope for optimal outcomes.

Montgomery back to the Bronx?

As Opening Day edges closer, the New York Yankees find themselves embroiled in the swirling rumors surrounding their starting pitching options. While much attention has been focused on Blake Snell, the recent recipient of the National League Cy Young Award, another former Yankee pitcher, Jordan Montgomery, emerges as a compelling alternative.

According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the future destinations for both pitchers remain uncertain. Montgomery, who is attracting considerable interest on the free-agent market, seeks a long-term contract, while Snell surprisingly entertains the possibility of a shorter deal with opt-out clauses.

A potential reunion with Montgomery could offer a cost-effective solution for the Yankees. His familiarity with Yankee Stadium and proven track record of reliability makes him an appealing candidate.

For the Yankees, who are steadfast in their pursuit of a championship in 2024, the decision looms large. The impending free agency of star player Juan Soto only adds to the sense of urgency. Although acquiring Montgomery would entail a significant investment, it could fortify their pitching staff and markedly enhance their prospects of a deep playoff run. Thus, Montgomery’s potential return raises the tantalizing question: could a reunion with the Yankees indeed be in the offing?

We lost the Snell sweepstakes? Heck, he signs anywhere else for multiple years, I consider that a win for the Yankees. What in his career numbers tells you that he deserves a long term contract or Ace type money?

As for Monty. Want him back? Very easy to get done – Get rid of both Cashman and Blake. Any other way, infinitesimally way harder.
