The New York Yankees have provided crucial updates on the progress of key players Ian Hamilton, Anthony Rizzo, and Giancarlo Stanton as the team battles through the second half of the season.
Ian Hamilton
Yankees right-hander Ian Hamilton is making progress in his throwing program, according to manager Aaron Boone. “He’s doing well, but there’s still a ways to go before he’s an option. He’s got to do sides and get into live sessions,” Boone stated. Hamilton, who has appeared in 27 games this season, has recorded a 4.55 ERA and a 1.584 WHIP over 29.2 innings, tallying 30 strikeouts against 14 walks. The Yankees are hopeful for his return, but Boone emphasized the importance of Hamilton’s complete recovery before rejoining the bullpen.
Anthony Rizzo
Five weeks after suffering an arm fracture during a collision at first base at Fenway Park, Anthony Rizzo was seen performing conditioning drills on the outfield grass Tuesday afternoon. Rizzo, who was initially expected to be sidelined for four to six weeks, is not eligible to return from the 60-day injured list until August. Before his injury, Rizzo was struggling with a .223 batting average and a .630 OPS over 70 games. His performance in the 13 games leading up to the injury saw him managing just five hits in 48 at-bats (.104), with two extra-base hits and a .188 slugging percentage.
Giancarlo Stanton
Giancarlo Stanton was observed taking batting practice off a pitching machine at Yankee Stadium and running out balls to first base. The designated hitter had been running the bases before Friday’s game, indicating progress in his recovery. Boone mentioned that it remains uncertain whether Stanton will require rehab games before returning to the lineup. Stanton has been on the injured list since June 22, with an anticipated four-week recovery period.
As the Yankees aim to stay competitive in a tough division, the timely return of these players could provide a significant boost. The team and fans alike are eagerly watching for further updates on their progress.
