The New York Yankees placed infielder and outfielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. on the 10-day injured list Wednesday due to a left elbow sprain. The injury, which occurred during Monday’s game against the Chicago White Sox, is being evaluated to determine its severity and whether surgery will be required.
As previously reported, the Yankees have promoted Oswald Cabrera for Wednesday’s game against the White Sox.
Yankees’ Jazz Chisholm dealing with UCL injury, remains optimistic
Yankees manager Aaron Boone confirmed that Chisholm is dealing with a UCL injury in his left elbow. Despite the potential seriousness of the injury, Chisholm remained optimistic when speaking to reporters. “I’m not super concerned about it,” he said. “The tests we’ve done have been pretty positive. It’s still sore, but I think we’re going to be good.”
The injury happened when Chisholm slid into home plate during the Yankees’ 12-2 loss to the White Sox. Although he initially stayed in the game, Chisholm was later removed due to increasing discomfort. “My adrenaline was still going, so I didn’t feel it right away,” Chisholm explained. “An inning went by, just sitting there, and I started to feel it a little bit.”
Since being acquired by the Yankees ahead of the trade deadline, the 26-year-old Chisholm has made a strong impression, hitting .316 with seven home runs, 11 RBIs, and a 1.062 OPS in 14 games. He has also transitioned to playing third base, a position he had never played before joining the Yankees.
Chisholm’s arrival sparked a hot streak for the Yankees, who won seven of their first eight games after his acquisition. However, the team has cooled off recently, losing four of their last six games. The loss of Chisholm, even if temporary, is a setback as the Yankees look to regain momentum.
As the Yankees await further updates on Chisholm’s condition, his potential absence poses a challenge for a team in the midst of a playoff push.
