The Yankees Open 2023 Against the Giants at Yankee Stadium
The Yankees and the rest of Major League Baseball released their schedules for the 2023 season on Wednesday, and there will be changes.
All 30 teams will play each other for the first time ever. There will be 52 divisional games, 64 games within the same league, and 46 games between leagues. On Opening Day every team will play (March 30), Jackie Robinson Day (April 15), Lou Gehrig Day (June 2), July 4, Roberto Clemente Day (September 15), and Game 162 (October 1).
With the new rules, the Yankees will play each of their rivals in the American League East 13 times. You can see New York’s full schedule for 2023 right below, followed by some of the best events.
Opening Day vs. San Francisco Giants
The Yankees will start the season off with a game against the Giants, who haven’t been to the Bronx since 2016. Opening Day will be on March 30, and both teams and the rest of MLB will celebrate. After Opening Day, there will be a regular day off. New York’s opening series starts again on April 1 and ends the next day.
May 26-28 vs. San Diego Padres
In May, a young and exciting Padres team will travel to New York. Fernando Tatis Jr., who was just suspended, could be done with shoulder surgery by then. Manny Machado and Juan Soto are also from San Diego. This means that this series should have a lot of big names.
June 2-4 @ Los Angeles Dodgers
Talking about stars, the Yankees will be in Los Angeles on June 2 for Lou Gehrig Day. The Dodgers and the Yankees have been two of baseball’s best teams in 2022. They could play each other in the World Series this year or next, or they could play each other in the regular season.
June 9-11 vs. Boston Red Sox
The Yankees and Red Sox won’t play each other again until June of 2023. The first series between the two rivals will take place at Yankee Stadium. But New York won’t have to wait long to go to Fenway Park. From June 16 to 18, the rivalry will take place in Boston.
June 13-14 & July 25-26, Subway Series
The Yankees and Mets will again play four games in the Subway Series. The first two will be at Citi Field in June, and in late July, the Yankees will host.
August 3-6, vs. Houston Astros
In early August, the Yankees will host four Astros games. New York will play three games in Houston, Sept. 1-3.
Roberto Clemente Day, September 15, @ Pittsburgh Pirates
Next season, the Yankees will get to play in Pittsburgh on Roberto Clemente Day. Clemente was a big deal for the Pirates, and he was also a well-liked humanitarian.
