The final game of the 2024 Subway Series is set for Wednesday night in the Bronx, with the Yankees and Mets facing off for the fourth and final time this season. The Mets have dominated the series so far, winning all three games and aiming for a sweep at Yankee Stadium to match their two-game sweep at Citi Field last month. A win tonight would give the Mets their first season series sweep against the Yankees since 2013.
On Tuesday night, the Yankees took an early lead with a solo home run by Gleyber Torres in the second inning. However, the Mets quickly responded, taking a 3-1 lead in the sixth inning with a two-run homer from Jeff McNeil, his fourth home run in five games since the All-Star Break. The Yankees narrowed the gap with an RBI double from Alex Verdugo in the bottom of the sixth but couldn’t score again, ultimately falling to their third defeat in five games since the second half of the season began.
What lies ahead?
Yankees manager Aaron Boone continues to experiment with his lineup in an effort to revitalize a struggling offense. On Tuesday, he made headlines by adjusting the batting order and has done so again for Wednesday’s game. Juan Soto and Aaron Judge remain constants in the lineup, while Torres has been moved to the leadoff spot. Boone’s adjustments aim to provide a spark for the team, which has struggled to produce runs outside of Judge and Soto.
Both teams have received positive injury updates that could impact their performances in the near future. For the Mets, ace Kodai Senga is set to make his first start of the season at Citi Field against the Braves on Friday. The Yankees, on the other hand, are looking forward to the returns of Giancarlo Stanton and Jasson Dominguez, who are expected to bolster their lineup soon.
As the Yankees strive to avoid a season series sweep and the Mets chase a historic victory, the stage is set for an exciting finale to the Subway Series at Yankee Stadium. Here are the starting lineups for the regular-season finale:
