Robinson Cano, a former Yankees star, has continued to thrive in baseball, even after his Major League Baseball career came to an unexpected halt. Cano, now playing in the Mexican Baseball League (MBL), is putting up remarkable numbers with Los Diablos Rojos, achieving a league-best .431 batting average.
Yankees icon Robinson Cano dominating in Mexico after MLB exit
Robinson Cano’s MLB career effectively ended in 2022 after a lackluster attempt to return to the league following a 162-game suspension in 2021 for violating baseball’s drug policy for the second time. He briefly played for the Mets, Braves, and Padres, but struggled with a .150 average over 33 games.
Despite the challenges, Robinson Cano found a resurgence in Mexico, where he’s been a standout performer for Los Diablos Rojos, a team often referred to as the “Yankees of Mexico.” His performance has drawn comparisons to video game stats, with teammates marveling at his consistent ability to deliver in clutch situations.
Before his suspension, Robinson Cano was on a Hall of Fame trajectory, boasting a career slash line of .304/.354/.493, with over 2,300 hits and 301 home runs. Even though his MLB career ended prematurely with 335 home runs—third-most among second basemen—Canó’s accomplishments on the field remain significant.
Now at 41, Canó reflects on his career without regret. “I’ve achieved a lot in this game,” he told The Athletic, expressing gratitude for his time in baseball rather than dwelling on what could have been.
