Jazz Chisholm Jr. will make his debut tonight for the Yankees just 24 hours after being traded, batting fifth and playing center field against the Red Sox at Fenway Park.
What happened
To make room for Jazz Chisholm on the active roster, the Yankees designated J.D. Davis for assignment. Chisholm arrived in Boston on Sunday afternoon and was expected to reach Fenway approximately two hours before the first pitch.
The Yankees acquired Jazz Chisholm on Saturday in a trade with the Marlins, sending prospects Agustin Ramirez, Jared Serna, and Abrahan Ramirez to Miami.
“We’re excited to get a talent like his,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Saturday night. “We think his skill set will play at Yankee Stadium. He’s got power, tremendous speed, and position versatility. He plays with a lot of energy and pizzazz. He’s a young, athletic player with a couple of years of control. We’re excited to get him and see him fit in. I know he’s really excited to get here.”
Jazz Chisholm, a left-handed batter, has been hitting .249 with a .730 OPS, 22 steals, and 13 home runs this season.
