Jasson Dominguez, the top prospect for the New York Yankees, could begin a rehab assignment this week as he works back from an oblique injury. The 21-year-old switch-hitter has been on the injured list since mid-June after suffering an oblique injury on a check swing.

Manager Aaron Boone told reporters Tuesday that Dominguez took live batting practice and could return to game action this week at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. In 23 games this season, Dominguez has posted a .356 average and a 1.013 OPS, with six home runs, 13 RBIs, and 53 total bases.

“Jasson is doing well and hit live BP yesterday,” Boone said. “He should be playing games within the week, so he’s very close.”

The Yankees are eager to have Jasson Dominguez back in the lineup, especially given their recent offensive struggles. His return could provide a much-needed boost as the team aims to solidify its position in the playoff race.
