In third and final game with the Angels on Wednesday in Anaheim, the Yankees faced a setback as outfielder Harrison Bader was taken out of the game after getting hit by a 95 MPH pitch from Angels reliever Jose Soriano. Bryan Hoch of MLB.com broke the news, leaving Yankees fans anxious about the impact on their lineup. During the sixth inning, Bader absorbed a fastball straight to the back, and initially stayed in the game taking first base, but was replaced in center field by Isiah Kiner- Falefa.
According to the Yankees, Bader’s injury has been identified as a posterior rib contusion. While it sounds painful, Bader has said he feels ok, but tight sporting a nice sized welt according to Gary Phillips, beat writer for the Daily News.
Prior to the hit by pitch, Bader was 0-for-2 with a strikeout. He along with the rest of his teammates has been mired in a slump, entering the game hitting 9-for-48 (.188) with a .518 OPS and 13 strikeouts in 13 games this month. This is Bader’s third stint on the IL after starting the season late due to a strained hamstring, and suffering a strained hamstring in May.
