Situated along the picturesque Greenwood Lake, Derek Jeter‘s longstanding lakeside retreat, affectionately dubbed “the castle,” has made headlines once again as it returns to the market with a significantly reduced price tag.

Jeter’s Lakeside Mansion Joins Auction Lineup

North Jersey

According to North Jersey, freshly listed at $6.3 million, the estate was previously listed for nearly double that amount at close to $15 million. Dating back to 1903, this property has been intertwined with the Jeter family legacy for over 70 years.

Acquired by the former New York Yankees icon in the early 2000s from the Tiedemann family trust, the residence was in a state of disrepair, having been subdivided into apartments. Originally commissioned by New York City physician Rudolph Gudewill for his spouse, the estate found its way into Jeter’s lineage through his grandfather, William Connors, who was adopted by John and Julia Tiedemann, the property’s owners since 1952.

Located just beyond the New Jersey border on the western banks of Greenwood Lake, Jeter’s lakeside haven sprawls across approximately 4 acres and boasts 700 feet of prime lakefront real estate. Under Jeter’s stewardship, the estate underwent a remarkable transformation, featuring a main house, guest quarters, a pool pavilion, and a boathouse. The meticulously landscaped grounds include an infinity pool, lush gardens, and a serene lagoon, all ensconced within 6-foot stone walls.

Gracing 14 Lake Shore Road in the Town of Warwick, New York, the stately stone residence is distinguished by its twin turrets, which lend it its iconic castle-like allure. Offering an impressive array of amenities, the estate comprises two conference rooms, six bedrooms, 13 bathrooms, and five kitchens – four indoors and one alfresco, complete with a wood-burning fireplace. The annual property taxes are approximately $75,000, according to the listing by Wright Bros. Real Estate Inc.

Derek Jeter’s lakeside mansion, with its captivating blend of history and luxury, will soon be available for auction starting at $6.5 million in December. Despite his roots in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and brief stints in Pequannock and North Arlington, New Jersey, Jeter’s connection to Greenwood Lake remains a cherished part of his family’s narrative. While locals attest to the occasional visits by Jeter’s parents, sightings of the baseball legend himself in the area have been rare.

From his illustrious career with the Yankees to his ventures in baseball ownership, Derek Jeter’s legacy continues to captivate both on and off the field, leaving an indelible mark on the world of sports and beyond.
