In a captivating revelation, New York Yankees second baseman Gleyber Torres unveiled in a recently released video that Shohei Ohtani, renowned as one of the most dominant MLB players of recent years, has been a guiding mentor throughout his career.
Torres and Judge: Ohtani’s Influence on the Yankees Duo
Torres, speaking with enthusiasm in the video, disclosed that Ohtani’s influence extended beyond himself, positively impacting teammate Aaron Judge’s batting skills as well. The two Yankees sluggers, Torres explained, delved into studying Ohtani’s hitting techniques through videos, keen to absorb the nuances that make the Angels’ star so formidable at the plate.
“I was talking with Judge and we were watching a lot of videos of ohtani, and we saw how he rotates, but ohtani is right here and I need to try to feel what it’s like to get in there. “
Inspired by Ohtani’s prowess, Torres decided to revamp his hitting routine for the 2023 season. Reflecting on his adjustments, he shared, “With the toe tap, I felt comfortable with two strikes, but the leg kick sometimes felt awkward. I’d switch to the toe tap, and while I felt good, I sensed a loss of power.”
Torres confided in friend Gio about his power struggles, and it was then that Ohtani’s name entered the conversation.
Statistically, the Yankees’ second baseman delivered a stellar regular season, boasting a .273 batting average, 25 home runs, and 68 RBIs.
Coinciding with his successful season, Torres unveiled a documentary titled “The Gley Way,” which premiered on YouTube on November 17. The documentary takes viewers on a journey from Torres’ humble beginnings in Venezuela to his ascent to stardom in the MLB. Beyond personal success, Torres expressed his hope that the documentary serves as an inspiration for young individuals to pursue their dreams relentlessly.
