The Yankees were expecting a lot from Brian Cashman’s trade for Frankie Montas. They gave up three of top 10 prospects to land the starting pitcher in the Bronx, according to Baseball America. However, it is turning into one of the most bitter deals for the Yankees and fans are now claiming that “Cashman got fleeced.”

The fan anger reached a new height after the reports surfaced claiming that it was reported that Frankie Montas is eight to ten weeks behind in his off-season training and shoulder inflammation is set to force him to miss the first month of the 2023 regular season. The Yankees were hoping to get benefited from his brute force and brought him by parting ways with the fifth- and ninth-best in their farm system.

The fallout of the trade is once again forcing fans to target Yankees GM Cashman. After the New York Yankees lost in the 2022 playoffs, fans were very angry with the team’s management. Cashman worked to win back the fans’ trust by re-signing slugger Aaron Judge and getting starter Carlos Rodon. But the recent injury scare for right-handed pitcher Frankie Montas has brought up questions about Cashman’s management and trade decisions, leading to more criticism of the team’s front office.

Frankie Montas is a veteran MLB player who started with the Chicago White Sox in 2015 and then moved to the Oakland Athletics in 2017. He was a key player for the Athletics until August 2022, when he was traded to the Yankees. But he was inconsequential in his first season and later sent to the bench following a shoulder injury that had been there since his Oakland days.

Yankees need Frankie Montas substitute in the rotation

The New York Yankees signed pitcher Frankie Montas to a deal worth $7.5 million to avoid arbitration. But just two days after the deal was finalized, the team said that Montas will miss the first month of the MLB season because his shoulder is inflamed.

The Yankees front office just finished a series of arbitration signings except for Gleyber Torres. The news about pitcher Frankie Montas’s injury has once again made fans angry and frustrated, and they are directing their anger at the team’s management.

Frankie Montas was supposed to be the fifth pitcher in the team’s rotation, after Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodon, Luis Severino, and Nestor Cortes. But Montas could be out for more than a month because of inflammation in his shoulder. The Yankees may have to opt for Domingo German or Clarke Schmidt to take his place in the rotation at the fifth position.

Brian Cashman faces the ire

After hearing about Frankie Montas’s injury, fans were quick to show their disappointment and anger at the front office of the Yankees, specifically the trade that General Manager Brian Cashman set up in 2022. Many people have said that this is proof that no team should trade with the A’s. And that the Yankees‘ problems with injuries have already started, even though the season hasn’t started yet.

Do you think German or Schmidt will take the place of Frankie Montas? Comment what do you think?
