According to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, one potential candidate who could address this need is the Blue Jays’ Matt Chapman. The New York Yankees are in need of an upgrade for the upcoming season and the team has been linked to the Toronto slugger.
Feinsand indicated that the Yankees have D.J. LeMahieu currently designated as their third baseman, but suggested that the veteran might be more suitable for a versatile, super-utility role. He also pointed out that second-year infielder Oswald Peraza might have opportunities at the hot corner. Feinsand hinted that the Yankees might perceive Chapman as a considerable upgrade, especially considering their third basemen collectively produced a .655 OPS, ranking as the fourth-worst in the AL.
Where can Chapman help the Yankees?
In 2023, the Yankees grappled with a significant issue – their lackluster offense. Despite winning 82 games, the team could have secured additional victories and a playoff berth if not for one of the least productive offenses in baseball. A key area requiring improvement is third base, even though the team have D.J. LeMahieu, there is room for an upgrade.
Chapman’s association with the Yankees has surfaced multiple times in the current offseason, and it’s not entirely unexpected. As the premier free-agent third baseman, he represents a potential upgrade for New York. The feasibility of a move for Chapman might be influenced by the acquisition of Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Juan Soto, or Cody Bellinger, considering the associated costs. However, if New York fall short in securing one of these other prominent stars, Chapman emerges as an ideal secondary option.
Incorporating him into the roster would constitute a commendable offseason maneuver for the Yankees.

you don’t need to go down that 3rd base mistake he is on the downside just like Donaldson was. chas don’t make that same mistake.
What a stupid way to word that headline. “Yankees could deal Chapman”? That implies they already have him and could be looking to trade (deal) him away. You don’t “deal” a free agent, you sign a free agent.
Couldn’t agree with you more, I thought it was an old story about Arnoldis Chapman
