The New York Yankees are fortifying their roster with additional versatile players, signing utilityman Jose Rojas to a minor league contract that includes an invitation to major league spring training. This move, confirmed by The Post’s Joel Sherman on Thursday, showcases the team’s commitment to building depth beyond their 40-man roster.

Yankees fortify foster with versatile infielder

Under the terms of the agreement, Rojas stands to earn $750,000 if he secures a spot on the major league roster, with a compensation of $180,000 if he plays in the minors. The 30-year-old left-handed hitter spent the 2023 season in the Korean Baseball Organization, where he posted solid numbers with a .253 batting average and an .819 OPS.

Rojas brings a wealth of experience, having played 83 games in the major leagues, all with the Los Angeles Angels from 2021 to 2022. During this span, he maintained a batting average of .188 along with a .584 OPS. Notably, Rojas has demonstrated his versatility by making starts at various positions, including third base, second base, right field, and left field, showcasing his ability to contribute across the diamond.

The Yankees’ decision to sign Rojas comes in the wake of losing utilityman Isiah Kiner-Falefa to the Toronto Blue Jays in free agency. While Kiner-Falefa’s departure left a void, the Yankees have several contenders vying to fill his role, with Oswaldo Cabrera emerging as a leading candidate.

In addition to Rojas, the Yankees have been active in securing other utility options, including the signings of Josh VanMeter, Kevin Smith, and Luis Gonzalez to minor league contracts, bolstering their depth in the position player department. The team also made a notable claim by acquiring infielder Jeter Downs off waivers earlier in the offseason.

This strategic approach to building a versatile and deep roster reflects the Yankees’ commitment to adaptability and flexibility throughout the upcoming season. By assembling a mix of experienced players like Rojas and promising talents from various acquisitions, the Yankees aim to strengthen their overall team dynamics and ensure they are well-equipped to face the challenges of the 2024 season.

As the Yankees continue to shape their roster during the offseason, fans eagerly anticipate how these additions will contribute to the team’s performance and whether the newly acquired players will play pivotal roles in the pursuit of success in the highly competitive landscape of Major League Baseball.

88 games in the bigs is “a wealth of experience “?? And a .188 BA should make fans, what, drool with excitement?? How is this news? Just more trash imported by Cashman who’s become a real liability. come on now.
