The New York Yankees have called up outfielder Jasson Dominguez as their 27th player for Sunday night’s Little League Classic against the Detroit Tigers. This special game allows each team an additional player on the roster, and if Dominguez plays, it will be his first major league appearance since last September.
What’s next?
According to MLB rules, Jasson Dominguez will return to the minors after the game unless a roster spot opens up for him. However, the Yankees can call him back to the majors at any time.
Jasson Dominguez, now 21, had a brief stint in the majors late in 2023 before an elbow injury led to Tommy John surgery. During those eight games, he hit .258/.303/.677 (158 OPS+) with four home runs, seven RBIs, and a stolen base. His 2024 season has been interrupted by injuries, limiting him to just 40 games since his mid-May debut. Despite this, he has managed a solid performance across three levels, batting .298/.365/.477.
Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman recently addressed why Domínguez hasn’t secured a spot on New York’s active roster. “He’s healthy, but the injuries this year prevented him from getting a substantial amount of playing time,” Cashman explained in a radio interview. “He’s waiting in the wings, mostly playing in center field, though we’re considering moving him to left. He’s versatile, having played multiple positions in his career. He’s eager and ready, just waiting for his opportunity. Right now, there’s no clear path to bring him up, but it’s good to know he’s available if needed. He’s shaking off the rust, waiting for his chance.”
The Yankees entered Sunday’s game holding a one-game lead over the Baltimore Orioles in the highly competitive American League East.

The last week or so, he’s been playing LF with even a game in RF. I’m guessing they using this game to have just how ready and healthy he looks to them. It’s a one off for now. Now watch how mysteriously Verdugo goes on the IL before Tuesday’s game and Dominguez stays, provided Dominguez does real well tonight.
