New York Yankees 9-5 Minnesota Twins

NEW YORK — The New York Yankees extended their winning streak to a season-high seven games, fueled by Aaron Judge‘s five RBIs. Left-hander Carlos Rodón was dominant from the start, striking out the first 16 Minnesota Twins batters he encountered. The Yankees ultimately defeated the Twins 9-5 on Wednesday night.

The New York Yankees are on a remarkable run, having won 18 of their last 22 games. This streak has them tied with the Philadelphia Phillies for the best record in Major League Baseball at 44-19.

In their latest triumph, a strong four-run first inning set the stage for pitcher Carlos Rodón (8-2). Rodón continued his outstanding performance, securing his sixth straight win, the longest streak of his career. His dominance was unchallenged until the sixth inning when Carlos Santana hit a fastball into the right-field seats, recording the Twins’ first hit against him.

Pounding the Twins: Judge Leads Offensive Onslaught

Judge led the Yankees’ offensive charge, scoring the first run with an RBI groundout against Paddack. In the fifth inning, he hit a three-run triple off Castillo, increasing the lead to 8-0. He continued his impressive performance by drawing a bases-loaded walk in the sixth inning against Staumont, adding another RBI to his total. This effort propelled Judge to the top of the Yankees’ RBI leaderboard with 54, surpassing teammate Juan Soto. Only José Ramírez has more RBIs in the league, with 58.

The Yankees extended their dominance over the Twins with this victory, marking their sixth consecutive win against them since last season. They have an outstanding 106-42 record against Minnesota since 2002. This year, New York has swept the Twins in all five meetings, outscoring them 28-7 (including a combined score of 19-2 in the last two games).

While the offense shined, Rodón was equally impressive on the mound. He held the Twins to two runs on three hits over six innings, striking out nine and issuing no walks. Opponents have hit just .197 against him in his last six starts. His performance was also supported by three excellent defensive plays.

Defensive Gems and Early Offense Fuel Yankees Victory

Exceptional defensive plays and a powerful first inning propelled the Yankees to victory. In a stunning moment, left fielder Alex Verdugo dashed towards the left-center field wall, making a backhanded catch on Byron Buxton’s drive for the third inning’s final out, diving headfirst and bringing the crowd to its feet.

Shortstop Anthony Volpe demonstrated his agility with a sprawling backhand stop on Carlos Santana’s grounder in the same inning. He quickly recovered and fired a one-hop throw to first for the out.

Right fielder Juan Soto also made a notable play. In the fourth inning, he leaped to catch a foul ball by Manuel Margot, contending with a fan reaching for the ball, and secured the out.

On the offensive side, the Yankees started strong. Judge’s RBI groundout put them on the scoreboard, followed by Giancarlo Stanton‘s RBI single. Gleyber Torres then hit a crucial two-run double, a fly ball down the right-field line that eluded a diving Margot. This early offensive burst is part of a larger trend, with the Yankees having scored 47 first-inning runs this season, just one behind the league-leading Philadelphia Phillies.
