New York Yankees 8-4 Houston Astros
HOUSTON — Carlos Rodón tied for the major league lead with his 16th victory while Trent Grisham blasted a three-run homer for his 30th of the season — marking the 100th of his career — as the New York Yankees secured a crucial series victory with an 8-4 triumph over the Houston Astros Thursday night at Daikin Park.
The Yankees transformed a tight contest into a comfortable lead during the eighth inning behind Ryan McMahon’s RBI single and Grisham’s towering blast to right field. The rally extended New York’s advantage to 8-3 and effectively ended Houston’s comeback hopes.
Carlos Rodón (16-7) dominated across six innings, restricting Houston to three hits and two runs — one earned — while striking out five batters. He matched Milwaukee ace Freddy Peralta for most wins in the majors as the Yankees captured their first series victory against a team with a winning record since sweeping Seattle from July 8-10.
McMahon, Grisham provide offensive punch

Grisham’s eighth-inning blast represented his third homer this week and pushed him to a team-leading 30 for the season. The power surge has included multiple long balls, featuring two grand slams, over the past seven days. Ryan McMahon delivered an RBI single during the second inning to initiate scoring before homering as part of a three-run fifth frame.
New York’s fifth-inning offensive explosion ended the night for Astros starter Cristian Javier (1-2). Javier surrendered six hits and four runs through 4 1/3 innings.
Alvarez shines despite Houston’s loss
Yordan Alvarez carried Houston’s offensive attack once again. He knotted the score with a solo homer in the third before contributing an RBI single during the ninth, equaling his career high with four hits for the second consecutive night. Jesús Sánchez added a pinch-hit homer in the seventh to pull Houston within 4-3, but the Astros couldn’t complete their rally.
David Bednar escaped a bases-loaded threat in the ninth by striking out Carlos Correa and Christian Walker to secure the final outs.
Chisholm injury, late bat controversy
The Yankees suffered a setback during the fourth when second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. left the game after bruising both knees on separate defensive plays. The organization characterized the injury as precautionary, though his availability moving forward remains questionable.
An unusual incident occurred in the ninth when Taylor Trammell doubled, prompting Yankees manager Aaron Boone to request a bat inspection. Following a delay and consultation with the replay center in New York, home plate umpire Adrian Johnson confiscated the bat, but no additional action was taken.
Key moments & statistics
Grisham’s three-run homer during the eighth inning secured the victory and highlighted his milestone evening. Grisham has connected three times over the past seven days, including two grand slams, with his 30 home runs in 2025 establishing a new career high.
