New York Yankees 7-8 Houston Astros
HOUSTON — What started as a promising evening filled with power and potential for the New York Yankees deteriorated into disappointment. Taylor Trammell’s bases-loaded walk ignited a devastating four-run eighth inning that propelled the Houston Astros to an 8-7 comeback victory Wednesday, ending New York’s eight-game winning streak at Daikin Park.
Devin Williams (3-6) filled the bases with one out during the eighth and struck out Ramón Urías but failed to escape trouble. Williams issued a five-pitch walk to Trammell, allowing Carlos Correa to score the go-ahead run. Jeremy Peña followed with an RBI single off Camilo Doval to extend Houston’s advantage before a balk and wild pitch by Doval plated two additional runs.
Both Williams and Yankees manager Aaron Boone received ejections from home plate umpire Brian Walsh following heated arguments over balls and strikes during the crucial frame. The ejection marked Boone’s sixth of the season.
Early advantage disappears following power display

New York appeared in command after Giancarlo Stanton ended an 0-for-14 slump with a second-inning solo blast — the 447th of his career. Austin Wells followed with a two-run homer in the fourth that extended the Yankees’ lead to 3-0.
Houston gradually closed the gap. Jeremy Peña opened the sixth with a homer before José Altuve contributed an RBI groundout to narrow the deficit to 4-3. Yordan Alvarez — who collected four hits — delivered the tying run during the seventh with a sharp RBI single.
Late rally falls short
Cody Bellinger rekindled hope during the ninth with a two-out, three-run homer off Bryan Abreu, reducing the deficit to 8-7. With the tying run at the plate, Abreu struck out Jazz Chisholm Jr. looking to preserve the victory.
Opportunities slip away
New York entered riding an eight-game winning streak at Houston’s Daikin Park and positioned to extend it to nine. Bullpen struggles and missed strike zones proved decisive factors.
Bryan King (5-3) captured the victory after delivering a scoreless eighth inning for Houston.
Key moments & statistics
Abreu’s strikeout of Chisholm with the tying run at the plate completed the Astros’ remarkable rally and secured their comeback win. The defeat ended New York’s eight-game winning streak at Daikin Park — their longest road success in Houston since the ballpark opened.
