New York Yankees 3-0 Colorado Rockies
Aaron Judge‘s home run streak showed no signs of slowing down as he blasted his 49th homer of the season on Friday night. The Yankees rode Judge’s power surge to a 3-0 win over the Colorado Rockies.
Judge’s Home Run Streak Continues
Aaron Judge continued his home run tear, smashing a 388-foot shot to left-center field off Kyle Freeland in the sixth inning, marking his fourth consecutive game with a homer. Despite earlier struggles at the plate, Judge’s power once again proved decisive in the Yankees‘ win.
A crowd of 38,910 erupted in chants of “M-V-P! M-V-P!” in recognition of Judge’s outstanding performance, though his final at-bat in the eighth inning ended in a pop-up to third base.
Judge’s recent performance has been nothing short of extraordinary. He has hit eight home runs in his last 11 games and 17 in his last 34. With just one more homer, Judge will become one of the select few players with three 50-home run seasons. His current pace indicates that he could match or even exceed the 62 home runs he hit in 2022, surpassing Roger Maris‘s previous American League record.
Since his batting average dipped to .197 on May 2, Judge has been on a remarkable run, currently batting .381 with 43 home runs and 101 RBIs in 94 games.
Yankees’ Dynamic Duo Dominates in Victory
Giancarlo Stanton‘s solo shot in the fourth inning set the stage for the Yankees as they continued their dominance, extending their winning streak to 11 games whenever both Stanton and Aaron Judge homer in the same contest. This was the 42nd occurrence in franchise history, including playoff games, where the Yankees have achieved this remarkable feat.
Carlos Rodón delivered another standout performance, tying for the major league lead in wins. He struck out five batters over six innings, allowing just four hits. Rodón, along with Gerrit Cole and Nestor Cortes, has combined for an impressive 19 consecutive scoreless innings over the Yankees’ last three games.
The bullpen kept up the momentum with Luke Weaver and Jake Cousins each throwing a hitless inning. Clay Holmes, despite a leadoff walk to Ryan McMahon, secured his 27th save.
While Kyle Freeland pitched well for the Rockies, the Yankees’ potent offense proved too much to overcome. This loss marked the Rockies’ sixth straight losing season, matching their franchise record.
The Yankees also welcomed Jazz Chisholm Jr. back from the injured list. However, Chisholm had a tough night at the plate, going hitless in his three at-bats.
