New York Yankees 11-5 Seattle Mariners

The New York Yankees unleashed another offensive barrage Monday night, pummeling the Seattle Mariners 11-5 for their fifth triumph in six contests. However, what began as a jubilant blowout quickly turned somber when Oswaldo Cabrera suffered a severe lower-leg injury in the ninth frame, casting a pall over an otherwise electric evening at T-Mobile Park.

Cabrera’s injury mars winning night

With New York holding a comfortable lead and Cabrera attempting to cross home on a sacrifice fly, the third baseman tried to evade a tag at the plate. As he pivoted, his left ankle appeared to buckle, twisting unnaturally beneath him. Cabrera touched home but immediately crumpled in excruciating pain.

Yankees medical staff member Tim Lentych rushed onto the field as an eerie silence enveloped the stadium. Shortly thereafter, Cabrera was transported off the grounds in an ambulance, his leg immobilized in an air cast. Distress was evident on every face in the Yankees dugout — the atmosphere shifting from celebration to shock.

A teammate near the dugout’s edge expressed that Cabrera represented the heart of the team, with the close-knit group bowing their heads in concern, visibly rattled despite the win.

Grisham, Wells spearhead offensive explosion

Before the emotional shift, the Yankees’ bats were in top form. Trent Grisham continued his unexpected breakout campaign, smashing his 11th and 12th home runs, both game-equalizing blasts — the first a leadoff rocket in the third that center fielder Julio Rodríguez nearly snared, the second igniting a six-run fifth inning that transformed a 2-1 deficit into a commanding 7-2 advantage.

That fifth-inning onslaught marked the fourth straight game the Yankees have tallied five or more runs in a single frame, a feat they’ve now accomplished six times in their previous six outings. New York accumulated 15 hits and has now amassed 39 runs across the initial four games of this road trip.

Wells maintains hot streak, goldschmidt delivers again

Austin Wells extended his torrid stretch with a three-run blast in the fifth — his eighth of the season — and contributed a sacrifice fly in the seventh. Paul Goldschmidt, providing consistent production throughout the series, collected three hits, including an RBI single and a crucial leadoff stroke to initiate a seventh-inning insurance rally.

Wells, who also drove in the contest’s final run before Cabrera’s injury, has now accumulated 25 RBIs this season.

Judge subtly enhances MVP credentials

Amid the offensive fireworks, Aaron Judge quietly posted a 2-for-3 night with two walks, elevating his average to .414. His presence at the plate continues to command respect — evidenced by multiple intentional passes — while maintaining relentless production. He crossed the plate twice and positioned the lineup for critical extra-base hits behind him.

Schmidt displays composure in quality outing

Clarke Schmidt surrendered just two runs across 6 1/3 innings, his third consecutive strong performance, reducing his ERA to 3.62 during that span. He recorded five strikeouts and navigated early challenges, particularly in the second frame when he walked the first two batters. A sacrifice bunt put Seattle in a threatening position, but Schmidt calmly fanned one and induced a fly ball to escape unharmed.

He yielded solo homers to Rodríguez and Cal Raleigh, but otherwise limited Seattle to three hits while generating weak contact. The outing cements his status as a reliable third starter behind Max Fried and Carlos Rodón.

Key moment & stat

Trailing 2-1 entering the fifth, Grisham’s second solo homer evened the score. It triggered a sequence of five consecutive hits: Judge singled, Ben Rice doubled, and Goldschmidt and Cody Bellinger delivered back-to-back run-scoring singles. Shortly afterward, Wells deposited a high fastball into the right-field seats, placing the game firmly in New York’s grasp.

The Mariners made things interesting when Cal Raleigh clubbed a two-run shot off Tim Hill to narrow the gap to 8-5 in the eighth inning. But Anthony Volpe responded with a two-run blast of his own to restore a comfortable cushion.

The Yankees have now registered 5+ runs in an inning six times during their past six contests. Monday’s 11-run outburst represented their fourth double-digit scoring display in six games and an MLB-leading ninth of the season.
