New York Yankees 10-5 Washington Nationals
The New York Yankees unleashed their complete offensive power and showcased their emerging talent Monday night in the Bronx. A decisive six-run middle-inning explosion, combined with Ben Rice’s career-defining blast and Cam Schlittler’s continued brilliance, powered a commanding 10-5 triumph over the Washington Nationals.
The victory represented consecutive explosive performances from a Yankees offense that has battled inconsistency throughout August. Jazz Chisholm Jr. established a new personal home run record while Jasson Domínguez rekindled his power surge. The Bombers appeared more formidable than they have in recent weeks.
Schlittler demonstrates growing maturity

In only his fifth major league start, Schlittler (2-2) continued establishing himself as a reliable rotation piece. The 23-year-old right-hander allowed four hits and three walks while fanning eight across six shutout frames, stretching his scoreless streak to 14 1/3 innings.
While he didn’t threaten perfection like his previous outing against Tampa Bay — when he carried a perfect game into the seventh — Schlittler displayed composure during a fourth-inning challenge with runners on the corners and one out.
CJ Abrams attempted stealing home during a double-steal try. Ben Rice alertly threw to second after Riley Adams popped out, nabbing Josh Bell to eliminate the danger.
Power display from Rice, Chisholm, and Domínguez
Cody Bellinger initiated the scoring with a first-inning sacrifice fly. Ben Rice delivered the evening’s first explosive moment. The rookie backstop launched a towering 435-foot drive into the right-field upper deck during the third inning. The blast represented his longest career homer and fourth this season.
The Yankees seized control with a devastating five-run fifth against Nationals starter Brad Lord (4-7). Aaron Judge lined an RBI double to the left-center gap. Bellinger drove in two with a crisp single to right field. Jazz Chisholm followed with a two-run homer — his third in two games and 25th this season, establishing a career-high mark.
Domínguez completed the offensive showcase during the seventh with a soaring three-run shot. The 22-year-old outfielder connected for his first long ball since July 23. He has steadily regained his timing after a slow second-half start.
Volpe’s extended absence from lineup
Struggling shortstop Anthony Volpe remained on the bench for the second consecutive game. José Caballero started in his position and contributed solid middle-infield defense throughout. The Yankees improved to 13-9 in contests not started by Volpe since the beginning of 2023.
Volpe is batting just .160 with 10 errors since June 15. Boone has not announced a permanent lineup change but praised Caballero’s recent contributions.
Key stats and moments
Schlittler has now thrown 14 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings dating back to Aug. 13. Chisholm reached 25 home runs for a new career high, including three blasts across his last two games. Rice’s 435-foot homer represents his longest career blast. Domínguez connected for his first home run since July 23, marking his sixth this season. The Yankees have posted a 13-9 record in games not started by Volpe since 2023.
