Josh Donaldson, who was acquired from the Minnesota Twins, has failed to meet expectations thus far. The DFA Donaldson word is trending on Twitter as Yankees fans continue to make a hard push to remove him.

The 37-year-old experienced his worst season in 2022, posting lackluster numbers with a .222 batting average, .308 on-base percentage, 15 home runs, 62 RBI, and a career-high 27.1% strikeout rate. Josh Donaldson’s performance in 2023 has been hampered by an early hamstring injury, limiting him to just 15 games where he has struggled with a .130 average, .212 OBP, a high 30.8% strikeout rate, and five home runs in 52 at-bats.

Even prominent sports commentator Mike Francesa expressed his dissatisfaction with the Yankees’ insistence on playing the veteran and openly called to exclude him from the lineup. According to him:

“Donaldson shouldn’t even be in the lineup, let alone batting third. It’s indicative of the current state of this team.”

Unfortunately, it seems that Josh Donaldson’s performance is continuing on a downward trajectory. If this trend persists, the Yankees may need to reconsider their infield strategy. After Aaron Hicks was removed by the team following the DFA route, Yankees fans want the same treatment to get rid of Josh Donaldson.

The Yankees Nation this time has proposed an alternative to the veteran third baseman. Twitter is flooded with the demand to oust Josh Donaldson and promote Oswald Peraza to the MLB team.

The emergence of Peraza as a promising alternative has been due to outstanding Triple-A performance recently. The 23-year-old has showcased his defensive prowess in his 30 MLB appearances, displaying versatility across multiple infield positions. He has a .306 batting average and a .377 on-base percentage. Additionally, he has recorded 10 home runs and 22 RBI in 29 games played. Despite Peraza’s readiness for the major leagues, the Yankees have been cautious in providing him with more opportunities. As a result, he could become a valuable trade asset as the trade deadline approaches.

The critique highlights the disappointment surrounding Josh Donaldson’s underwhelming contributions and sheds light on the team’s overall situation. His performance this month has been lackluster, with a meager .133 batting average and a .229 on-base percentage. If he continues to struggle at the plate, the Yankees will have to reconsider giving him regular starting opportunities.

Despite hitting three home runs since his return, Josh Donaldson has failed to gain credibility among Yankees fans. His defensive mishap, a fumble during a ball transfer from his glove, highlighted his sloppy defense, even though he went 2 for 4 in the game against Boston.

  1. You know I’ve been a Yankee fan since the mid 60s watching Mickey Mantle the team’s Roy White and all the other good guys that they had Mel stottlemyer you know right up to halfway maybe till Jeter retired you know the 1998 team it’s sad it’s it’s really sad it’s Mickey Mantle was alive today and he shot a captain of a team complaining about a big toe get out there and stop whining I knew that was going to happen when he signed the big contract now he’s got nothing to worry about as far as donelson goes let him go get him out of here get him out of here and then talk about the other albatross that you you have on the team there your your big DH he’s doing nothing for the team nothing at all yeah he hit some home run now and then and he gets on the street but for $170,000 a game and $35,000 for every at bat it’s ridiculous what you guys are paying for nothing bring the young guys up

    1. Couldn’t agree more. Donaldson is terrible at the plate and for Boone to bat him 3rd when he’s batting .130 is pathetic. Pulling Cole after 6 against the Mets was another managing blunder – he was cruising with a good pitch count.
Meanwhile Florial and Peraza are raking in Scranton. A very flawed team all around, very poorly constructed. I find it hard to believe we go to IKF for defensive purposes in center field. IKF playing center field in Yankee stadium is sacrilegious!!

  2. Donaldson is a disaster and has been from the moment the Yanks got him. Cashman really screwed up with this trade, just to get rid of Sanchez. They should’ve DFA’D Sanchez then, instead they will now have to eat 25 million dollars. This combined with the Hicks debacle would have brought some excellent players that could be relied upon. I know the Yanks are Billionaires and could afford it but let’s stop wasting money on useless players and find a better replacement for Cashman and Boone. These two are Mostly responsible for the state of the team.
To sum it up, getting rid of Donaldson in any way will make for a better team. Move on now before it’s to late.

  3. Everyone has focused on dfa Hicks (finally happened) and now Donaldson (rightfully so). I don’t think Boone is the manager (I have asuspect who is really behind the scene. That’s why Girardi is gone)
Can’t anyone tell? This team has been formulated by Cashman. For years I have been saying Brian is way way operated and is very much the REAL PROBLEM!
He waits so long when players the team can desperately are free available, only to get snatched up by other teams. Heck it’s not exactly like every player in baseball wants to be a Yankee anymore.
Cashman can’t match a pair of laces for footwear let alone run Pinstripes.
Hal relies so much on this loser basically I feel he really doesn’t haven’t a clue who else to turn to. Let’s be realistic that pretty much everyone wanted both Cashman and Boone gone after the 2022 season. But Hal drastically mistaken in giving Brian a new four year contract (Go Figure). Then in turn Cashman then re- signs his puppet in the dugout so he can remain the manager putting the lineup out each game.
He couldn’t do this with Girardi, that’s the real reason Girardi is long gone!
Billy Martin would kick dirt all in his face if Brian tried doing this with him.
Final verdict… dfa the true problem and rid yourself of Brian Cashman, get yourself a real GM who can develop players oppose to letting them rot in the minor leagues.
