In a heartwarming moment that could have taken an unexpected turn, Yankees ace Gerrit Cole found himself momentarily caught off guard during his Cy Young Award acceptance ceremony. MLB Network’s Pedro Martinez posed a hypothetical question, asking Cole who he would choose to have by his side if he could pick anyone to share a trophy moment.

Seated proudly beside him, Cole’s wife Amy had a front-row seat to the near-miss, with the question seemingly designed for a smooth, sentimental answer. However, Cole surprisingly hesitated, taking a few seconds before delving into a heartfelt tribute to his wife. He praised her unwavering support from his college days onwards, recognizing her vital role in various life journeys, from the significant move to New York to building their home and navigating the pandemic together. Emotion thick in his voice, Cole declared, “She’s the one I want beside me for every win.”

The momentary hesitation, followed by Cole’s genuine expression of love and appreciation, culminated in a tender embrace between the couple. This unexpected deviation from the script added a layer of depth and authenticity to the award ceremony, showcasing the genuine bond between the Cy Young winner and his biggest supporter.

Who is Amy Cole?

Amy Cole, born Amy Crawford on January 10, 1989, in Mountain View, California, has carved a multifaceted identity as a former collegiate athlete, career coach, and philanthropist.

Raised in a family with a strong affinity for baseball, Amy’s upbringing in Pleasanton, California, was steeped in athleticism. Her brother, Brandon Crawford, was a professional baseball shortstop for the San Francisco Giants, underscoring the family’s deep-rooted connection to the sport. The 2015 All-Star Game held special significance, representing the first time Gerrit and Brandon played together on the same field.

Amy attended Foothill High School, where she showcased her athletic prowess, particularly in softball. Her talent and dedication earned her a spot at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where she majored in sociology and social science, graduating in 2011. At UCLA, Amy was a vital member of the Bruins’ softball team and contributed to their victory in the Women’s College World Series in 2010.

Beyond her athletic career, Amy has established herself professionally as a career coach and recruiting manager. She has worked with Essex Mortgage, applying her skills in talent acquisition and career development. Her professional endeavors, combined with her athletic background, contribute to an estimated net worth of around $100,000. In contrast, her husband Gerrit Cole’s net worth is significantly higher, attributed to his successful MLB career and substantial contracts.

Gerrit Cole and Amy Crawford’s love story began on the fields of UCLA, where both forged their paths to success. Amy, a standout in softball, played a pivotal role in the Bruins’ Women’s College World Series victory, while Gerrit achieved the distinction of being the first UCLA player selected first overall in the MLB draft.

Both athletes, they met in the weight room, where Gerrit was immediately struck by Amy’s beauty and athleticism. Their shared passion for sports and mutual respect laid the foundation for a lasting relationship. After dating for several years, the couple became engaged in July 2015 and married on November 12, 2016, in a ceremony held at the Ritz-Carlton in Santa Barbara, California.

Their second son, Everett Cole, was born on January 2, 2023. Amy often shares glimpses of their family life on social media, highlighting moments of parenthood and the couple’s journey together.
