When Aaron Judge’s wife used his name to get out of a DUI arrest

Samantha Bracksieck, who is Aaron Judge’s wife, was arrested and charged with “extreme DUI” in Scottsdale, Arizona, in February 2020. She married the Yankees slugger in December 2021.

The Scottsdale police stopped Samantha, then Aaron Judge’s girlfriend, on her way home because she didn’t have her headlights on. The police tested her because she smelled like alcohol and found that her blood alcohol level was between .15 and .19.

The public didn’t find out about Samantha’s arrest until May 2020, when the news quickly went viral. Police bodycam footage from the arrest shows that Samantha used Aaron Judge’s name to get away:

“Do you know who my boyfriend is? … My boyfriend is in the spotlight in New York media in general. And now here I am handcuffed in Arizona … Like, that is not good.”

With the news in the spotlight, baseball fans who pay close attention were busy judging Samantha’s personality.

According to the New York Post, “Samantha Bracksieck, 26, was detained in Arizona in February on counts of severe DUI and four others.”

Arizona has the strictest DUI sentencing laws in the country. If you are convicted of an extreme DUI in Arizona, which is defined as a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of.15 to.19 (or almost double the legal limit), you will spend at least 30 days in jail. However, in exchange for a guilty plea, prosecutors dropped that charge along with the others against Aaron Judge’s girlfriend.

Samantha received a 10-day prison term, but the judge suspended nine of those days and credited her with one. However, Aaron Judge’s girlfriend was fined more than $2,000 and ordered to undergo an alcohol abuse evaluation by the judge.

But after her DUI arrest in Arizona, Samantha got help from her former professor at Fresno State University. Dr. Mark Baldis vouched for her character, according to the New York Post:

“She is a sweet girl. She’s really amazing. I don’t think of her as this super-loud girl who says, ‘I date Aaron Judge.’”

He added:

“She’s very bright. She’s very down-to-earth. There is no pretense about her at all. She is a really great kid.”

“Knowing Sam all these years, she is not one to drop his name. She can get nervous. Knowing Sam, she wasn’t trying to get out of anything. I am willing to bet she’s just devastated over it. She’s a really humble kid.”

Aaron Judge and Samantha went to Fresno State University after meeting at Linden High School. In 2016, they broke up, but in 2019, they got back together. After dating on and off, the Yankees star married Samantha in a private ceremony in Hawaii in December 2021, which shocked the MLB world.

Aaron Judge rarely shares private photos on his Instagram page. So, a rare photo of the Yankees when they were at Fresno State University is a treat for fans.
