The New York Yankees announced a partnership aimed at enhancing sustainability at Yankee Stadium. While the partnership had been in place for some time, it was made public only this Friday. According to MLB, the Yankees have teamed up with Vapur and its Hydration Program to promote environmentally friendly practices at the ballpark.
What happened
Over the past two months, the club has installed 23 bottle-refilling stations throughout the stadium, with plans to add 21 more during the offseason. These stations are designed to reduce single-use plastic waste by encouraging fans to use reusable water bottles. As part of the initiative, Vapur’s innovative “Anti-Bottles”—which stand upright when filled and fold flat when empty—will be available with Yankees branding in team stores for $7.99 each.
Doug Behar, the Yankees‘ Senior Vice President of Stadium Operations, emphasized the club’s commitment to sustainability, stating, “Providing bottle-refilling stations will go a long way in minimizing the amount of single-use plastic containers. Using reusable water bottles quickly becomes habitual. We deeply appreciate Vapur for their guidance in securing these fountains and look forward to our guests enjoying this amenity in the Stadium this season and in the years to come.”
Brent Reinke, Vapur’s Co-founder and Director, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, saying, “Vapur is extremely excited to join with the Yankees in offering its refilling stations, which are manufactured by Elkay, and having the Vapur-Yankee co-branded flexible water bottles in Yankee Stadium.”
The Vapur Hydration Program aims to make clean drinking water more accessible and reduce waste from single-use plastic bottles. Since its launch in 2012, the program has already saved over 1 million bottles from ending up in landfills. Each year, billions of water bottles are consumed worldwide, with less than 20% being recycled. The program, which includes the refilling stations and Vapur’s reusable “Anti-Bottle,” seeks to help lower these numbers.
Vapur’s Hydration Program has been implemented at various venues, including sports and entertainment arenas, national parks, ski resorts, hospitality locations, K-12 schools, and college campuses.
The newly installed bottle-refilling stations at Yankee Stadium are strategically located throughout the concourses to ensure easy access for fans. On the 100 Field Level, stations can be found at Sections 105, 106, 110, 114, 124, and 130. The 200 Main Level features refilling stations at Sections 201, 205, 214a, 220, 223, 232a, 234, and 238. Moving up to the 300 Terrace Level, stations are located at Sections 306 (with two stations), 307, 311, 318, 324, 332b, and 333. Additionally, a station is available in the Yankee Stadium Press Box for media use only.
