New York Yankees vs. Tampa Bay Rays: Nestor Cortes vs. Jeffrey Springs

The Tampa Bay Rays are still in New York, where they will play the Yankees at 7:05 p.m. ET on Tuesday. Before beating the Baltimore Orioles in a series, Tampa Bay lost two games in a row to the Milwaukee Brewers. The Yankees, on the other hand, have lost four series in a row.

New York appeared to be on track to have the best record in baseball and home-field advantage in the playoffs, but they have struggled recently. Before Monday’s game, the Yankees were 2-8 in their last ten games, trailing the Astros for the best record in the AL. The Yankees’ offense has also gone cold recently, with only three runs scored in their last five games.

Nestor Cortes will start for the Yankees, who is 9-3 with a 2.67 ERA and 2-0 with a 2.70 ERA in his last five starts. This season, he’s 2-1 with a 3.06 ERA against the Rays and 4-0 with a 2.06 ERA at home. Offensively, the Yankees rank 17th in the league with a .242 average, a.328 on-base percentage, and a .438 slugging percentage.

This will be the 12th meeting between these two teams this season. The Yankees are 7-4 ahead in the season series.

Aaron Judge leads New York with 46 home runs and a slugging percentage of .674. Over the last ten games, DJ LeMahieu has gone 6-for-35 with a home run and an RBI.

The Yankees’ injured list includes DJ LeMahieu, Matt Carpenter, Harrison Bader, Luis Severino, Miguel Castro, Giancarlo Stanton, Michael King, Chad Green, Stephen Ridings, and Zack Britton.
