Aaron Judge Hit His 43rd Home Run of The Season

The New York Yankees beat the Seattle Mariners Monday in a series opener. Aaron Judge hit his major league-leading 43rd home run, Jose Trevino had his first multihomer game, and the Yankees beat the Mariners 7-2.

With a three-run homer in the first inning, Anthony Rizzo started the onslaught, and New York clinched its 31st consecutive winning home record (41-13), second only to its big league record of 47 in a row from 1918 to 1964. The Yankees are 70-34, making them the first team to reach that mark this season.

Before the game, the Yankees acquired Oakland starter Frankie Montas and reliever Lou Trivino, three days after Seattle acquired Luis Castillo, possibly the best available starter on the trade market. Castillo will face Yankees ace Gerrit Cole in the series finale on Wednesday.

Rizzo’s three-run homer off Marco Gonzales put the Yankees ahead in the first (6-11). Rizzo’s homer over the Yankees’ bullpen in right was his fourth in six games, bringing his season total to 26 home runs and 65 RBI.

Trevino hit a home run in the fourth inning and then drove into Monument Park in the eighth inning against Ryan Borucki. The first-time All-Star has nine home runs this season, matching his total from the previous four big league seasons, and has 32 RBI, a career high.

Judge is on pace to hit 67 home runs, six more than Roger Maris set in 1961 for the Yankees. On Aug. 12, 1961, Judge hit his 43rd home run in his 101st game and New York’s 104th, while Maris hit his 43rd in his 114th game and the Yankees‘ 115th.

After the World Series, he will be eligible for free agency. Since the All-Star break, Judge has hit 10 home runs in 12 games and 13 in his last 16 games.

Aroldis Chapman, Jonathan Loáisiga, and Wandy Peralta pitched one-hit, scoreless relief.
