New York Yankees 8, Kansas City Royals 5
In an exciting game at Yankee Stadium, the New York Yankees secured a series sweep against the Kansas City Royals with an 8-5 victory. The highlight of the game was Anthony Rizzo’s much-awaited home run, breaking his 45-game homer-less drought.
The Yankees wasted no time taking the lead, scoring four runs in the first inning. Gleyber Torres started things off with a two-run homer, followed by an RBI double from Anthony Rizzo and an RBI single from Harrison Bader.
Luis Severino delivered a solid performance on the mound, allowing three runs and striking out five over 5.2 innings, earning his second win of the season.
Anthony Rizzo, who had been struggling with his hitting, showed signs of improvement in this game. He went 4-for-4, boosting his season average from .244 to .253. The much-needed solo home run in the third inning marked his first homer since May 20.
The Royals fought back with home runs from Salvador Perez and Michael Massey, but it wasn’t enough to catch up to the Yankees. Freddy Fermin and Kyle Isbel added solo homers in the ninth inning, but New York’s lead was too substantial.
The game wasn’t without its challenge for the Yankees, as Torres left the game in the seventh inning due to left hip tightness. Nevertheless, the team managed to secure the win.
With this series sweep, the Yankees ended a four-game losing streak and secured their first series win in July. They also managed to sweep the Royals and the A’s earlier that month.
Next up for the Yankees is a two-game set against their crosstown rivals, the New York Mets. The Subway Series promises to be an exciting matchup, with Domingo German set to start for the Yankees against Justin Verlander of the Mets.
The Yankees will look to carry the momentum from this sweep into their upcoming games and continue their pursuit of success in the season.
