Last year, the Yankees were attempting to trade Joey Gallo before the trade deadline, and they were eventually able to receive some compensation for him.
The Yankees received right-handed pitcher Clayton Beeter from the Los Angeles Dodgers in return. Beeter, who is currently 24 years old, is now making a strong impression at the Double-A level.
According to MLB.com, Beeter is fast becoming an attention catcher in the Yankees’ minor league system and it is a positive development for the Yankees who lack a strong bullpen.
Beeter was acquired by the Yankees from the Dodgers in the trade that sent Joey Gallo to Los Angeles last summer. Though Beeter had impressive pitching skills, he had only pitched up to five innings in one of his first 53 professional games in 2021 and 2022, which raised concerns about his ability to start.
However, Beeter has since pitched five innings or more in three games this year, displaying his mid-90s fastball and excellent mid-80s slider, and recording an ERA of 1.35 and 34 strikeouts in 26 2/3 innings at Double-A level. His performance has been considered an inspiring story in the Yankees’ farm system by MLB.com.
Beeter was selected by the Dodgers in the second round of the 2020 MLB Draft.
During the offseason, Gallo agreed to a contract with the Minnesota Twins worth $11 million for one year.
