Infielder Oswald Peraza is poised to take a significant leap forward in his journey to recovery. Speaking on the Talkin’ Yanks podcast, manager Aaron Boone revealed that Peraza is set to commence throwing on Wednesday, marking a pivotal moment in his rehabilitation process.
Yankees’ Oswald Peraza on the mend: Throwing resumes Wednesday
Aaron Boone expressed optimism, stating, “Peraza starts throwing [Wednesday], actually. So, he should start to build pretty quick from there.”
The setback for Oswald Peraza occurred on March 9 when Boone announced that the 24-year-old infielder would be sidelined for six-to-eight weeks due to a subscapular strain in his right shoulder. This decision came after Peraza experienced discomfort in his throwing shoulder during his limited appearances in spring training, ultimately leading to his shutdown.
Throughout his tenure with the Yankees, Oswald Peraza has showcased his defensive prowess in 70 games over the past two seasons, although his offensive statistics stand at .216/.298/.306 with three home runs, 11 doubles, 16 RBI, and 23 runs scored.
However, it’s Oswald Peraza‘s defensive capabilities that truly shine, particularly given DJ LeMahieu’s absence due to an injury. With LeMahieu on the injured list due to a bone bruise in his foot, having a versatile player like Peraza available either as a starter or off the bench would undoubtedly bolster the Yankees’ lineup.
Based on the initial diagnosis of six-to-eight weeks, Oswald Peraza is expected to make his return sometime in late April or early May, providing a potential boost to the team as they navigate through the season.

They will take their time getting Peraza ready. I’m not sure he necessarily start an official rehab much before April 10. And if Cabrera keeps up his play as the fill in 3B, will they play Peraza at multiple positions, maybe even in the OF too during his rehab assignment?
