The No. 2 New York Yankees prospect Jasson Dominguez ended his 2022 season on a strong showing. His performance stands out despite his team losing the playoffs after rain forced to call off the final game.
In 2019, the signing of the 19-year-old Yankees prospect set up a franchise record. A 2021 and 2022 All-Star Future, Dominguez got a promotion to High-A Hudson Valley Renegades this year.
The Renegades were scheduled to play their final game of the season against the Wilmington Blue Rocks on Sunday, but the game was postponed due to rain. The match will not be replayed and the Renegades failed to earn a spot in the postseason, so the 7-5 defeat on Saturday stands as the club’s final game of the regular season.
However, this failed to diminish Yankees prospect Dominguez’s record. He went out with a bang, hitting two home runs. The Dominican right-hander hit solo home runs in the third and fourth innings. Dominguez also went 4-for-5 at the plate, drove in three runs, and scored three runs.
With another Yankees prospect Anthony Volpe too knocking at the team doors for an MLB cap, New York relishes its backup options.
Per MLB.com lauded Dominguez:
“His four knocks on Saturday tied a season-high that he set on Aug. 27 against Hickory. Domínguez has hit safely in his past four games and is sporting a .306/.397/.510 slash line 16 extra-base hits, 33 runs scored, 22 RBIs, and is 17-for-18 in stolen base attempts over 40 games with the Renegades.”Dominguez’s first game with more than one home run was on Saturday. The Yankees prospect finished the season with six for the Renegades. Before he was moved up to the High-A Tampa Rays in July, he also hit nine home runs in 75 games with the Low-A Tampa Tarpons. The New York Yankees think Dominguez could be a big part of the team’s future based on his stats for the 2022 season: 115 games, .280 batting average, 15 home runs, 58 RBI, and 36 stolen bases. Who are other Yankees prospects ready to get MLB callup in the 2023 season?
