Yankees GM Brian Cashman, notwithstanding his recent failures, has a track record of over twenty years of the team consistently achieving above .500 finishes. MLB insider Andy Martino believes the record is enough to reject any demand to fire Cashman.

“What employer in their right mind would consider firing an employee after 25 consecutive winning years and one disappointing one (Cashman became GM in 1998 but was as assistant GM when the streak began)? This is not going to become a thing, period.”

Martino credits Cashman for Yankees’ success

Martino pointed out that throughout Cashman’s tenure, the Yankees have never recorded a season with a negative win-loss record.

During Cashman’s tenure as GM, the Yankees clinched the World Series championship on four occasions, with their latest triumph occurring in 2009. Interestingly, 2009 also marks the most recent instance when the team reached the pinnacle of the Fall Classic. As of Thursday, this year’s Yankees, often referred to as the Bronx Bombers, found themselves in sole possession of the bottom spot in the AL East standings. Concurrently, they lagged behind by five-and-a-half games in the competition for a wild-card spot.

According to Martino, Cashman’s enduring stability has left rival executives deeply impressed.

“I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard other GMs refer to Cashman as a certain Hall of Famer, which he is, and as one of the very best to have done the job. They say this because he finds a way to win across eras, and without ever taking a three-to-five year break. Virtually no one else knows how to do this.

Rival executives rarely attribute the Yankees‘ consistent success to their high payrolls, as no other affluent team has achieved such a remarkable winning streak. Instead, they focus solely on the achievements.

However, that specific achievement might come to an end within the next couple of months. It has become a narrative to monitor, albeit a disheartening one, as the Yankees navigate through the conclusion of a season that has taken an unfavorable turn.

According to the insights of the MLB analyst, it has been indicated on Thursday that regardless of the New York Yankees’ final placement in the American League East and wild-card rankings, there will not be any substantial deliberation concerning Cashman’s employment situation at the end of this season.

Following a report on Wednesday that suggested the possibility of Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner considering the termination of Cashman this autumn “is not a consideration” and is not subject to deliberation, Martino provided his latest information. Cashman, who assumed the role of the team’s general manager in 1998, recently secured a four-year contract extension through the 2026 season in December.

Despite boasting the highest payroll in the American League, the team appears likely to miss out on securing a spot in the postseason. Martino highlighted that, even so, Cashman continues to command respect across Major League Baseball.

Yankees fans are far from convinced

So Andy Martino wants to give Cashman credit for 4 WS titles. Gene Michael built the first three and the 4th was a result of purchasing the 3 Best FA the offseason prior to winning it. any 5th grader who can read the back of a baseball card and 3 Blank checks could have done that. for ever “genius” trades Cashman has made there are 10 bad ones over past 20 years. the man has presided over the longest Yankee championship drought since Babe Ruth was pitching for the Redsox. Andy go back to school…

The Yankees are going to stink for many years to come, thanks to Cashman signing players on the downhill sides of their careers for WAAAAAAAY too much money for FAAAAAAAR too many years.
Steinbrenner is never going to breach the upper salary cap, so there will always be too few dollars to employ younger impact players.
Nothing upcoming but 5 seasons (at least) of 162 “old timers’games” each year. YIPPEE! Thanks, Cashman. 😡

Yea, Andy Martino sounds as delusional as Cashman .
Cashman never makes the right choice .
He chased the cheaper older option at first because they never even tried with Olson or Freeman.
Passed on Harper because we had “plenty of good OFs”
The farm system is an abomination, the last impactful player from the farm system was Aaron Judge.
We have the shortest RF porch yet we have no impact left handed bats In The lineup for over 5 years, think Olson or Harper would make sense?
The Yankees have no lefty starters .
And the analytics dept may be the worst in baseball, all decisions made by Clueless Cashman.
But the funniest comment of all was when Cashman and Hal said Yankee fans want stars .
Hmmmm, the 96 Yankees were hardly stars but they were homegrown and we loved them and we lived and died with them EVERY game.
Jeter,Bernie,Posoda, Petite, Mo and Paulie(who we acquired from the Reds for Roberto Kelly but was hardly a star, Piniella was platooning him in Cincy).
So please spare me this Cashman nonsense, anyone can do what he does with a 290 million dollar payroll and probably do it a lot better.
But I’m glad I at least found out that Andy Martino is a hack and knows absolutely nothing about baseball , I’ll make it a point to never read this fools articles. He’s probably a hack in Cashmans pocket.
