In a masterful display of pitching prowess, Marcus Stroman dominated the mound at Oracle Park on Friday, ensuring the Yankees capitalized on Aaron Judge’s remarkable performance. The right-hander’s sharp and efficient outing lasted 7 ⅓ innings, marking the second time in three starts that he has pitched into the eighth inning.
Stroman’s ability to keep the Giants’ offense in check was instrumental in securing the Yankees’ 6-3 victory. He surrendered only two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out two batters over his 7.1-inning stint. This impressive performance further solidified his outstanding form, as he has now allowed a mere three runs over his last 26.2 innings, spanning four starts.
Throughout his dominant stretch, Stroman has maintained a respectable 15:7 strikeout-to-walk ratio, which stands as the only minor blemish in his otherwise stellar performance. His command and control over his pitches have been exceptional, as evidenced by his lowered ERA, which now stands at an impressive 2.73.
During Friday’s outing, Stroman delivered a diverse array of pitches, totaling 91, with 56 of them being strikes. His repertoire included 34 sinkers, which resulted in a 0-3 score, 26 cutters that induced a 2-for-8 outcome, 13 slurves that yielded a 0-for-3 result, 10 sliders that led to a 3-for-7 showing, and 8 splitters that concluded with a 1-for-2 tally.
Stroman’s season statistics now boast a 2.73 ERA, a 1.23 WHIP, and a 55:29 strikeout-to-walk ratio across 69.1 innings in 12 starts. As he looks to maintain his impressive form, his next start is tentatively scheduled to take place at home against the Twins, where he will aim to continue his dominance on the mound.
