In a moment that seemed almost scripted by the baseball gods, Juan Soto delivered a memorable performance Wednesday night against the Kansas City Royals.

After fouling a pitch off his foot, Soto was visibly in pain, his future in the game in doubt. But with the tenacity that defines a star, Juan Soto stayed in the lineup—essentially playing on one leg—and launched a two-run homer to put the Yankees ahead.

Juan Soto’s grit powers Yankees to lead over Royals

On Sept. 11, 2024, Juan Soto scored a homer during the sixth inning against the Kansas City Royals at Yankee Stadium.

The New York Yankees edged out a 4-3 victory over the Kansas City Royals in a thrilling 11-inning battle, thanks to Juan Soto’s heroics in the sixth inning. Soto’s crucial home run gave the Yankees a 2-1 lead, but the Royals quickly tied the game minutes later. This back-and-forth showdown exemplified the importance of every run in the tightly contested matchup.

In addition to the game’s drama, it was a milestone night for the Yankees. Soto’s home run not only shifted momentum but also marked his 100th RBI of the season, making him the second Yankee, alongside Aaron Judge (110 RBIs), to reach the century mark this year—a feat not achieved since 2011.

Juan Soto’s moment of brilliance came after a scare when he fouled a ball off his foot, appearing to be in significant pain. After a tense few minutes with trainers examining him, Soto rose to the occasion, returning to the plate to launch a two-run homer. His 39th blast of the season electrified the crowd and showcased the grit the Yankees have displayed throughout their injury-plagued season.

Despite Kansas City’s efforts to keep the game alive, the Yankees held firm, delivering another chapter in what has been a rollercoaster season. With the win, New York continues to fight for playoff positioning in the American League.
