The New York Yankees got a power boost in September with the introduction of Jasson Dominguez. Though the rookie had to leave his promising season within weeks following an elbow injury, everyone has begun to see him as the future star of the team. According to the latest update, Jasson Dominguez is recovering faster than expected and he is likely to return to the team roster ahead of the given schedule.

As reported by The Athletic, the Yankees have received encouraging news regarding their talented young player’s recovery from Tommy John surgery. They anticipate Jasson Dominguez returning to action in the summer of 2024, potentially ahead of the initial 12-to-14-month recovery timetable.

Recent updates indicate that Yankees outfield prospect Jasson Dominguez still has his arm in a brace following Tommy John surgery in late September. The 20-year-old phenom underwent the elbow reconstruction procedure on September 20th. At the time of the surgery, the Yankees estimated his recovery and rehabilitation would take 8 to 10 months before he is able to return to baseball activities. Dominguez having his arm remain braced over two weeks into the projected timeline highlights the cautious approach the team is taking to ensure the young star’s injury heals properly.

Position players rarely require Tommy John surgery, with the procedure primarily performed on pitchers, accounting for 90% of the 1,814 surgeries since 1976. The last outfielder to undergo Tommy John surgery was Bryce Harper of the Philadelphia Phillies. Texas doctor Keith Meister, who performed the surgery on Harper, did the same procedure on Jasson Dominguez. Harper’s return set a record in baseball and Yankees fans want to see the same for their favorite rookie.

Jasson Dominguez carries Yankees hopes

Despite the potential challenges the surgery poses to a player’s career, the Yankees are optimistic about Jasson Dominguez’s recovery and expect him to return to action in the middle of the 2024 season. They hope he can build on his performance from the previous year, which included four home runs and a promising .258/.303/.677 slash line in 31 at-bats.

Jasson Dominguez’s remarkable achievement of hitting four home runs in his first seven professional games established him as the youngest player to accomplish this feat. As he works his way back to the majors, he is expected to receive some tune-up action in Triple-A.

While Jasson Dominguez’s talent is evident, there is not yet a sufficient sample size to make definitive conclusions about his potential as a player. However, he has displayed an assertive approach at the plate and demonstrated the ability to handle big-league pitching. Jasson Dominguez’s first home run, achieved against Justin Verlander, was a significant and confidence-boosting moment in his MLB journey.
