Jasson Dominguez got his promotion to play with the Double-A Somerset on Tuesday. The Yankees look to their outfield prospect as a future star and Dominguez’s performance justifies it.
While it was the second promotion for the 19-year old this year, first baseman Tyler Hardman was also promoted to Double-A.
Meanwhile, outfield prospect Everson Pereira headed to the injured list.
Dominguez, who played in 2021 and 2022 Al-Satr Futures, has spent his season so far in both Single-A and High-A. He has hit .280/.382/.465 and has hit 15 home runs and driven in 58 runs. Since the beginning of August, he has done better. In his last 31 games, he has hit .331/.428/.546 with five home runs and eight other extra-base hits. Dominguez’s record of 20 walks to 23 strikeouts also looks very impressive for a prospect.
The Double-A season is longer than the High-A season. So, Dominguez will get more chances to hit this year. He might be missing more games in low minors and lack adequate opportunities to showcase his talent.
The promotion allows the player to try out some Double-A pitching, which he is likely to see a lot of in 2023.
A 16-year Dominguez was first signed by the Yankees in 2019. New York broke the franchise record to sign the international amateur free agent. The Yankees gave him a record-setting signing bonus of $5.1 million because they thought he could become a superstar.
The outfielder is well-known and fans adored him with the nickname “The Martian.” Analysts praise him for having a lot of good techniques.
He is fifth on Baseball America’s ranking of New York farm-system prospects. They said that his speed and arm had improved since he signed with the team. In fact, his power was the only tool Baseball America gave a plus or better grade. “There’s still a lot of polishing to do, but Dominguez could still become an MLB regular,” claims Baseball America.
Do you agree with the BA evaluation of Jasson Dominguez? Is he better than Anthony Volpe?
