The New York Mets have officially hired Bronx boy Harrison Bader to man their outfield, securing his presence with a one-year, $10.5 million contract. The agreement includes enticing opportunities for additional earnings based on Bader’s performance.
Known for his defensive excellence, Harrison Bader receives a $1 million signing bonus along with a $9.5 million base salary. However, the real intrigue lies in the performance incentives. Each All-Star selection, Gold Glove, Silver Slugger, or MVP award adds $50,000 to his earnings while securing the titles of MVP runner-up and third-place finisher translates to $25,000 and $10,000, respectively.
Harrison Bader to get added perks at each step
The potential for postseason heroics carries even greater rewards. Harrison Bader stands to earn $50,000 for being named the NLCS MVP and an impressive $100,000 for clinching the World Series MVP title.
While Harrison Bader has yet to don the All-Star jersey, he achieved the prestigious Gold Glove honor with St. Louis in 2021. Although he wore pinstripes for part of the 2023 season before joining the Cincinnati Reds, injuries limited his appearances to just 12 games before entering free agency.
Despite the recent challenges on the field, Harrison Bader boasts a career .243 batting average with 59 home runs and 217 RBIs. His pinnacle performance occurred in the stellar 2021 season, where he recorded a .267 average with career-highs in home runs (16) and RBIs (50). Replicating that success with the Mets could potentially lead to a lucrative payday beyond this initial contract.
The Mets, aiming to strengthen their outfield and defensive capabilities, have placed their confidence in Harrison Bader’s talent and future potential. With substantial financial incentives in play, both fans and the team have ample reason to anticipate an exciting and rewarding upcoming season.
