Guerrero looked like a best-picture champion to manager Charlie Montoyo, bloodied by a baserunner’s cleats and pushed into the dugout. Guerrero supplied a trilogy worth noticing Wednesday in the Bronx, according to audiences.

Despite a nasty gash on his right ring finger, Guerrero hit 3 home runs against the rival Yankees, along with two off ace Gerrit Cole, as Toronto defeated New York 6-4. He had a double and gloved a sharp line drive for the final out of the game.

Despite homers from Gleyber Torres, Anthony Rizzo and Aaron Judge— as well as a jump in the eighth by pinch-hitter Giancarlo Stanton that was captured on the warning track — the Blue Jays managed to hold off the Yankees.

The AL MVP runner-up hit home runs off Cole during the first inning, had his hand unintentionally spiked on a play at first base in the second, and then hammered a two-run line drive off Cole in the third to place Toronto up 3-0.

He doubled off Cole in the 6th, prompting the pitcher to edge his cap, and then hit a 443-foot home run against Jonathan Loaisiga in the 8th to make it 5-3.

Guerrero appeared to be out in the second inning when baserunner Aaron Hicks stepped on his bare throwing hand. To balance, Guerrero had to reach across his body for Bichette’s throw and place his right hand behind the first base bag. Hicks pounced on it, resulting in an infield single.

Guerrero batted again in the third inning, this time with a dark red stain on the right thigh of his pants, and turned Cole’s 98 mph fastball into a 427-foot, two-run homer and a 3-0 Blue Jays lead.

New York removed the deficit in the sixth inning with home runs by Rizzo and Judge, as well as a tying double by DJ LeMahieu against José Berroa. Springer came back in the seventh inning with an RBI single off Loaisiga.

Hicks almost robbed Guerrero’s first home run in centre, leaping above the wall and briefly having the ball in his glove. It came out when Hicks hit the wall, bounced off something other than the home-run barrier, and re-entered play. A replay review confirmed that the ball had gone out.

In six games, Rizzo has three home runs. Judge and Torres each had their first home run. Stanton’s eighth-inning drive would have tied it, but left fielder Raimel Tapia captured it with his back to the wall.

Cole struck out 6 batters in 5 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on Guerrero’s home runs. Guerrero was responsible for three of his four hits.
